Name: Gerard Anthony Donovan Age: between 14-20 during the course of the story Gender/pronouns: Male; he/him Sexuality: Gay Nationality: American Race: White
Hair: Dark brown, wavy, usually kept slightly longer than is typical; he often hides behind it Eyes: Brown Skin: Pale Markings: None
Traits: Quiet, creative, thoughtful, anxious, awkward, sweet. Elaborate: Gerard is a very quiet guy, mostly due to his selective muteness. Even around those he does talk to, he doesn't say much. He moves quietly, too. He spends a lot of time in his head, thinking and planning the next plot line or character. He's always creating, even if he isn't physically writing at the time. He also can be described as thoughtful, keeping in mind other's feelings and such. Gerard's anxiety is the cause of his selective mutism, and while it's very frustrating sometimes, he's learned to deal with being anxious is almost any situation. He is quite awkward in new situations, thus he doesn't put himself into many of them. Not being able to talk doesn't help this any. But those who know him well will call him a genuinely sweet person, the kind of guy who will be there for you and stand by you at all times, even if you just need someone to sit with. Likes: Books, writing, soft music, dark colors, apples, fine china, playing acoustic guitar, essential oils, outer space. Dislikes: New situations, explaining his muteness, loud/discordant noises (sensory overload), spicy food, the color yellow, lemons, water without flavoring, laminated paper, the heat. Mental: Suffers from anxiety, both generalized and social. Selectively mute. Over thinker.
Brief history: Gerard is the oldest of two, followed by his younger sister Thalia. He's always been pretty quiet, even as a baby, and loved to be left by himself. His mother taught him to read when he was four and he hasn't stopped since. He tried baseball when he was eight, and hated it. When he was fourteen, just after starting high school, his anxiety became worse and he stopped talking. Over time, he began to talk to his immediate family again, and learned sign language. After this, he became more withdrawn and quiet, and took up writing. Family: Gerard isn't particularly close to his father, Richard, who is a little disappointed that his son isn't the typical boy he thought Gerard would be. As for his mother, Agatha, Gerard is very close to her. She's his idol in a way. Gerard and his little sister Thalia are very close as well, though she's more rough and tumble than he will ever be.
