Just One Year discussion

I'm probably never going to read this book, so spoilers are fine. That's kind of what I'm looking for. So I read a bunch of reviews, and I gathered that Dee wasn't gay and he came to find the couple and tell them a secret. What's all that about? He was the only character who's ending I wasn't satisfied in the last book and I'm just wondering, what happened?
