⸢ twenty ⎯ caste two ⎯ guard ⸥

As the son of a palace guard and a maid, it only makes sense that Will would grow up helping out around the castle. It's in his nature to help out — he can't stand just sitting around and doing nothing. He likes to find ways to make himself useful, to lift the burden from others a little bit. It might be silly for him to busy himself with such mundane tasks all the time — when he's not on guard duty, he can easily be found helping in the kitchen... or mending uniforms... or cleaning out the stables...

The thing is, Will can't say no. His joy in life comes from helping people, from making their lives a little easier for them, and well, if they need help, and he's capable, then why wouldn't he help them?

In that way, Will is quite simple-minded. He sees something that needs to be done, and he does it. He's not about the frills. He's not about the glory. He just wants to do what needs to be done, and do it effectively.

By the same token, it can be difficult for Will to see others' perspectives. His view of the world is very simplistic, very black-and-white, and he struggles to understand things done as he sees frivolous — that are, in actuality, simply for pleasure or enjoyment. He's not into self-indulgence and strives to help others, but sometimes fails to recognize people's need to take time for themselves.

so what does that make me?

ʏᴏᴜʀ dad loves him. Your girlfriend loves him. Hell, your boyfriend probably loves him, too. Everyone seems to have been charmed by the gold-en boy of Illea's baseball scene. Drafted by the major league as one of the top picks right out of college, Luke is only a rookie in the world of professional baseball. He has, however, had a more than stellar season with a previously underdog team — It's just hometown and family pride, he says humbly in the interviews, I used to always go with my Ma to see Dad play, and we'd get some brats, you know, and, well, I think I wanted to be an Eagle since I first sat in those stands. — as shortstop and cleanup hitter. It came as a surprise, then — and to some outrage — that Luke was drafted to be a guard. Even with a season over, it was time off that could throw a wrench in his fledgling career.

(It's all good! Luke dimples at the interviewer before adding, I'm more than happy to be serving my country. And don't worry; you'll be seeing me on the field again soon.)

Although seemingly happy-go-lucky and optimistic, Luke isn't stupid. Sure, he's no genius — but he's where he is for a reason, and that's because he loves baseball, and he's pretty damn good at it. He doesn't lack common sense, and his instincts and intuition are strong. He knows that there are dangers in being a guard, and maybe if he was any other guy, he would have paid his way out of his job. But this is his duty, even if there's the danger of rebel attacks. He knows his physical prowess could be useful against any dangers.

Of course, there's the other danger of him being at the castle. Because, well, to put it simply, Luke plays for the other team.

Which could be okay. He knows he could get a guy flowers, you know, treat him right. But it's something that he's struggled to come to terms with. Of course it is — it's illegal. He's illegal because he exists and lives and loves. He could be killed for it. It's hard not to be afraid, and Luke is terrified out of the few wits he has. And to leave the protection of his team and family and media coverage and distraction... he doesn't know that he can do it. He's scared of it, honestly. If they find out... he loses everything. The Eagles lose everything. Dad and Ma lose everything. And he can't... he can't.

Not to be dramatic, but getting drafted as a guard is literally the worst thing that has ever happened to Hudson. And before you ask, yes, we are talking about the teenage heartthrob Hudson Reynolds, who won four gold medals his first olympics and was signed on as the leading face of both Burberry and Tom Ford for the last year and a half.

Not to be dramatic, but this is the last place on earth Hudson is supposed to be. He's not meant to stand around "guarding", he's meant to train; a genetic jackpot of talent, it's basically a sin not to put his skill to use. For fuck's sake, he's eighteen, he just turned into a legal adult (fat lot of good that did, he got all of the taxes and none of the benefits), he's in the physical prime of his life, and yet, what's he doing? Pacing hallways, holding rifles for show, getting scolded whenever he's too lazy to fully put on his uniform or gets caught using the prop hand grenade as a miniature soccer ball. Save Hudson and a couple others, almost every other guard here was a four or lower before. No wonder Illéa's security is in shambles, what can you expect when the majority of the country's ammunition comes from Sixes and Sevens trying to loophole out of their low statuses? And in the midst of it all, is Hudson, universally respected, admired, even, but also━ universally hated. Not that he cares. Love, hate, it's all the same━ at the end of day, he's the one with four gold medals and a seven-year modeling contract, so who's the real winner here?

Not to be dramatic, but Hudson has really sunken down to a new low. Honestly, he knows he could've gotten out of it like that. There aren't many twos who are guards for a reason━ it's far easier just to push some bribe money to the government rather than to actually follow the law. And it's not like Hudson has a high respect for the law━ the Reynolds never did━ but he's gotta show them that he's better than the rest of those whiny bitchbaby Twos. Say what you will about Hudson━ that he's inhumanly gorgeous, that he's unbelievably talented, that he's an insufferable ass━ but you can't deny that this boy has a vicious pride and ungodly ambition. Even at this infernal hell of a palace, Hudson is determined to leave his mark.

And with the selection literally knocking at the palace doorstep, you really didn't think he was going to let the prince get all the fun, did you?

bryant angelo halloway ;; just bryant
         ( seventeen & male & an artist )
       B I O G R A P H Yi've been livin' without limits
Life is actual, living bullshit. Like, bULLShiT! First of all, is he even old enough to do this? He turned seventeen what, a week ago? He's basically still a sixteen year old baby, so this is some serious bullshit. Sure, it's a drawing and like, you have to follow the law and all this other crap, but this is just pushing it man. Honestly. Oh wait. You probably don't even undestand why he's upset do you? Well, let me just fill you in on all this bullshit.

Life for Bryant's family is, in the simplest terms, five. Bryant is the third child of five. They are of caste five. It's a never ending thing, caste five, the caste with jobs that you are good at or you move down. His older brother and sister, they're twins, and they're eighteen. They're important, but we'll get there. Anyway, the Halloways are of caste five, and they're doing pretty decent. Bryant took up art at a young age, starting with cute doodles and venturing out into what he does now; portraits and sculptures. He's pretty good at what he does. Actually, some say he's gifted even, blessed with the abilities of the artists from old time, many of which who weren't recognized for their talent until decades after their deaths. And maybe that's what got him into this bullshit.

Life when you're the older sibling of Bryant sucks. Well, not for Mariella, she had the voice of an angel and her violin skills were tear-worthy. So really, it sucked to be Angelo. Because your siblings are only getting better and you suck. Angelo was barely getting by, all he could do was paint a little painting and play the trumpet and piano, which was nothing compared to the talent of all his younger siblings. Even the youngest of them all, a little girl by the name of Luisia, was going to be quite the circus performer. And what was Angelo? Nothing. At least, he was before the bullshit.

Life went upside down when the draft happened. Angelo Halloway was drafted, picked from a slip of paper and the government knocking on his doorstep in no time. But Angelo wasn't there, in fact, he never showed up. He went for 'a walk' and never returned. Luisia is the last one who spoke to him, and she recalls him saying something about never coming back. But the government pulled the name, they pulled the last name Halloway and needed someone from the family. And Bryant? Well, he would be seventeen soon and looked good enough, besides it wasn't as if he was just going to be a regular teenage boy. No, Bryant was going to be well behaved and not step out of line, even with the selected around. But of course, that's bullshit.

aaron caleb makenzie ;; call me caleb
     ( eighteen & male & a veterinarian )
       B I O G R A P H Ythrowin' dirt on my old name
At one point, it would've been appropriate to call Caleb Aaron. You would look at him and think of the double A's, call him Aaron or A-A-Ron and he would laugh and joke with you. It would've been good at one point. But now, is not that point. See, as a child Caleb was a good kid. He was sweet and kind, and he took his shoes off after rolling around in the mud so he wouldn't track it in the house! (Except, he still did usually because he was dripping in mud.) He was just a good kid. But you know what they say, the good die young.

Caleb had this dog when he was younger. Well, his parents did. And Caleb wasn't sure what his name was, but whenever someone said Aaron, the dog answered. So his parents started calling their son by his middle name, so Aaron wouldn't pounce them every time they called their kid. Caleb and Aaron were best friends, the perfect example to the common"a man's best friend" dog quote. They went everywhere and did everything together, and it was pretty great. It was like, two peas in a pod, even though a pod usually has three and they were peas, but it was still very nice.

Caleb loves animals. He always has, and always will. They're easier to understand and get along with, and something that actually makes sense, unlike humans. Honestly, Caleb would rather be trapped in a cage with lions than with other people. He would probably be safer with the lions honestly. Caleb was a veterinarian intern back home, and he loved it. But then the draft happened, and now he's here. Which is so stupid, he should be taking care of the lion cubs, not some prissy lovestruck girls. They don't even need protection, they're just girls in dresses, why would anyone want to hurt them anyway? Caleb doesn't want to be stuck guarding hallways and marching, he wants to be back with the animals. And honestly, that lion cage sounds pretty good right now.

jestin noah frost ;; it's pronounced justin
        ( twenty-five & male & a guard )
       B I O G R A P H Yi wanna tell you my intentions
Who even is Jestin Frost? I mean, yeah, he's a guard now, but before that who was he? Go ahead, ask anyone. No one really knows. He says he's always been a caste two, but you know he's not famous because who wouldn't remember a face like that? He says he used to play soccer when he was younger, but then he stopped playing sports--though if you've ever seen him shirtless you wouldn't believe that one. And his parents weren't politicans because no one had the last name Frost. So who the heck is this scruffy hot rich guy? And where did he even come from?

The draft is a tricky thing. But it's so easy to get out of it. Especially when you can actually swim in your money, like Jestin. Jestin's parents had been war heroes, really important ones at that. They died heroically in battle when Jestin was around ten years old, leaving him everything. The name, the medals, and all the money. Jestin from then on was raised by his nannies and the like, his best friend being something of a footman to him as he grew up. He's always been rather quiet and kept to himself, this resulting in him being some mysterious man that no one knows about but everyone would like to meet.

Most people compare him to some character in an old novel. A man who was rich beyond compare and threw grand parties in his house that was much too big for him. And that's exactly what Jestin does. Party. He throws parties, he invites provinces and just has one nonstop weekend party. His summer is constantly filled with parties, and he's had so many one night stands. And then, the draft happened. Jestin told his friends that they could keep having parties, but they said it wouldn't be the same without him. So now he's here, in Angeles, in some hot uniform. People are staring and want to know his name. And what does he want? Nothing really. At least, not yet.

you can't trust just anyone

ᴇᴠᴇʀʏᴏɴᴇ knows of the Iscariot Scandal. Also known as the time when two of the most important people in the country — Ambassador Richard Iscariot and his wife, Treasurer Uma Stephens Iscariot — were exposed for not only embezzling from government funds, but sending them in support of the Southern Rebels. It was only natural, then, that the treasonous couple would be executed for their crimes.

No one ever talks about the boy it left behind.

Young Adam Iscariot — only nine at the time — was taken in by one of the housemaids, who was married to a Seven. Hence, Adam's caste dropped from Two to Seven in a matter of days, and he began to live a life of poverty. It hasn't been a horrible life. He loves his adoptive family, and they love him. It's hard work, a lot of manual labor, taking all the jobs that he can get — but it is what it is. He'd rather be a respectable bricklayer than an outcast from society for his parents' crimes... but then again, he's both, now.

But he's thankful that he was drafted to become a guard — it gives him the chance to prove his loyalty. That he's not his parents. It's not even that he likes the royal family — he just wants some sort of redemption, but it seems like maybe there is no absolution for the Iscariots.

ʟɪғᴇ on a farm is nothing short of ordinary for Ian Lastinger. It's not a bad life by any means — the Lastingers run a successful farm, and Ian certainly can't complain about that. But it's a simple life. A humble one. A certain one which ensures that he will never do anything but work a farm in his life. Which he might be okay with, if he were to be the one who actually inherits the farm.

But, of course, when his parents die, the farm goes to Jacob, his oldest brother. And then Jacob's kids. And if something were to go wrong, it would go to Fred next, then Beck, then Sam, then Peter. And then, finally, to Ian. That's right — Ian has five older brothers (and two younger ones, Ryan and Blake). And it's hard to do anything spectacular when you're in the middle of eight siblings.

He loves the farm. He loves his family. But he's always wanted to do something more than settle down with a nice local girl and help work the farm with a litter of at least half a dozen children.

So he welcomed the draft — it gives him a chance to do something important. Make a name for himself that doesn't disappear in the shadow of five perfect older brothers. He just wants something more, and. Well. Maybe he'll find it.

twenty five ━ male ━ heterosexual ━ caste 2 ━ captain of the guard
Look, he didn't sign up for this. Let's make that clear from the start. But when the king comes up to you and informs you you're the new captain of the guard? It's not in your best interests to refuse. And hey, it couldn't be so bad, right? Enforce a few rules, keep people safe. The works. It wasn't supposed to be sleepless night worrying about your idiot guards getting caught making out in the second floor broom closet. With each other.

See, Arthur (you call him Arthur, nothing else) cares too much. Maybe the job would've been easier for him if he'd detached himself from it more. In any case, he's always had a problem separating heart from head. He knows his guards are breaking the law, he knows he should turn them in. But when it comes down to it? He can't let them all go to the execution block it was him who sent them there.

Sure, it says in his job description that he's supposed to uphold the laws of Illea. But he reckons his job is also to protect the inhabitants of the palace. And if the laws of Illea go against protecting the inhabitants of the palace? Well then, maybe the laws ought to be circumvented a little. And maybe, just maybe, the laws ought to be changed. Considering that if they were actually upheld, Arthur would have to watch the executions of three quarters of the palace. And that is something he could not live with. So he intends to do his damnedest to make sure everyone makes it through the day, even if they try their very hardest to get caught doing illicit activities. And with the Selection, he's pretty sure his job is about to get about 1000% harder. As if it wasn't hard enough already.

williem harris hart ;; just will
           ( nineteen & male & athlete )
   B I O G R A P H Yif you're reading this it's too late
I know what you're thinking. Did I just read that correctly? Is this guy's last name Hart? And you know what? Yeah, you did read it correctly. This is Williem Hart, cousin to the oh-so-amazing Charity Hart. And yes, she was the one who told me to say that. But don't worry, Williem is, uh, more likeable? He isn't so much ditzy and actually understands that the world isn't all fun and games unlike his cousin. Why? Simple. Sure, he and Charity are both given whatever they would like. But then Will got it all taken away.

Two years ago, Will's parents were savagely murdered. They were important political figures, and they knew things. Important things, the kind that was more important than their son scoring the winning goal to win the championship for their team. But Will was understanding. He got it, they had jobs and had to handle them. They needed to worry about the important stuff, the things that really mattered. The King needed to know these things, the important things that like everyone else really cared about. Besides, you could always watch someone play soccer if you really wanted to.

But anyway, there was a southern rebel attack. Well more like a planned murder. Southern rebels infiltrated his home and killed his parents. Will and his siblings found them three days later, hanging from their chandelier and covered in their own blood. It wasn't the prettiest sight and is still stuck in his head, haunting his nightmares every few months. Will and his siblings changed after that. They were given medals and told that their parents were great people. But that didn't matter, they were gone now. What's the point of them being great if you can't tell them?

After the death, Will and his siblings all focussed on their own careers. Caroline, his older sister, starred in a lot more movies, busing herself with them. Katherine, his younger sister, took up a television show and singing. And Will? Well, he just played a heck of a lot of sports. He busied himself with soccer, and also took up kickboxing. They helped distract him. And gave him trophies, which were nice and made good for decorating the trophy case in the hall. And then millions later, he was drafted. Kat doesn't like the idea of him being a guard, and neither does Caroline, but it's not like he can just refuse the King. Besides, he's parents would've wanted him to

☆║ ▌███ ❦ ███ ▌║☆

[Personality]: Collin is a contemplative soul. He is nothing if not poised, respectful and entirely professional. Despite his origins, he's the perfect picture of manners and class. He scarcely begins conversations, barely speaks at all. He tends to overthink things, so when in a conversation he might pause often to think about the best thing to say. Collin has a deep love for music he doesn't have time for. His greatest memories belong to the freedom he lost before he managed to make his way to the palace as a guard. Collin never complains, and doesn't know himself he is unhappy with his new life. He left someone behind when he was moved up to the palace, and somehow he managed to keep himself in check and not allow himself to feel anything other than hope. Collin is a grateful man, but very difficult to approach, difficult to understand and most of all, he is incredibly unpredictable. He is a great listener, and a loyal friend. Collin may be a handful of mystery, but it's no secret he would do anything for a friend, for someone he loves.

☆║ ▌███ ❦ ███ ▌║☆

[History] : Before Collin was introduced to the life of a palace guard, he was a humble Five. He was a performer along with his parents. He played many instruments, but played the guitar best of all, and held it closest to his heart. He was a dedicated musician, a hard worker, and very close to his family. When Collin turned 15, his father fell ill and died within a couple of short weeks. His mother fell into a great depression and Collin was left working on his own ever since. A large piece of his mother went with her husband, and Collin worried often about her and his younger siblings, too young to help him with work.

His mother wasn't able to play anymore, do much of anything but stare out the window all day and stare at the fire all night. As his mother seemed to age 30 years after her husband's death, Collin seemed to age 20, not physically, but in any other way. He grew hard and quiet, focused, and worked himself to the bone to provide for himself and his mother. Despite the fact that he would have to leave his mother and his younger siblings and didn't have time to play any more, he was glad he was honored with working at the palace. That way he didn't have to work as hard to provide more for his family. They would be taken care of for a while, until he could retire.

Collin had always been a lonely boy, even when his father was alive and his family well and merry. His father was his best friend, and when he was gone, so was any chance of Collin ever breaking out of his usual silence. He rarely smiles now, and not anything seems good enough to make it happen either. Despite the wall he's built around himself to keep others out and his feelings in, Collin has hope, he has the energy and the will to make it the best he can for his mother with his father gone forever. Little does Collin know he wants something else rather than a good job and a bit of hope...

He jokes lazily, and loves teasing people (lovingly, of course) and really doesn't seem to be too much of anything when you first meet him. Julian does have an air of confidence though, which alone makes people want to know him better. Underneath, you can see that Julian is first and foremost fiercely protective towards anyone he loves. His mother and sisters and a few close friends have made the cut. He's also incredibly hardworking, making sure everyone else has what they need before even making sure of his own needs most of the time. He loves himself (he does, don't worry), but Julian has never been the most important person on his list, and never will be.

bɪᴏɢʀᴀᴘʜʏ   ━   April 1st, also known as April Fool's Day. It was a cool day near the ocean, and Emma and Owen Darcy were joking about how their firstborn was born on a day made for jokes. It was all fun out loud for the two, but Owen secretly hated it. Wouldn't somebody make fun of his son because of it? Emma didn't think anything of it though; she was too in love with her son to think of anything else.

Their family life started out wonderfully, as loving and happy as any other family would be, but it didn't take long for this to change. Owen had always had anger issues, it was no surprise to Emma when he would get upset over things that seem insignificant, until the day he hit her. Julian was five already and his mother was pregnant again, making it nearly impossible for her to leave Owen and take her family to a safer place.

It didn't get much worse from there. Random outbursts from Owen were often and expected. Julian quickly learned to stay out of the house as much as possible; surfing when he wasn't at school or cleaning someone's house with his mother. The twins practically grew up outside to keep them from Owen, in the event of one of his outbursts. He usually directed his anger towards Emma, but if Julian happened to be in his way, he was given the blame for something he didn't do and was hit. Julian hated it, of course, but he began to be "in the way" more often, to take his father's anger away from his mother and sisters.

This went on for years, the same twisted routine for nearly a decade until Julian was drafted at the age of 18. He was glad for the opportunity, but he hated leaving his mother and sisters with his father. Since there was nothing he could do about it, Julian just sent most of his paycheck home until he heard the news that his father had left with the "promise" of a good job at a major company, across the country. Julian was finally able to relax a bit more know that he knew his mother and sisters were safe, at least for now.

Peter Jonathan Brown

24 | male | asexual | single | guard | caste 2

A p p e a r a n c e
With rather pale skin and black hair, Peter is a person that will stand out. His thick curly locks just reach his chin, and can often be found held back by a hair tie. Peter generally let's his facial hair be a little scruffy, and will trim it so it remains short. He has dark brown eyes to compliment his dark hair. Peter is shorter for a man, standing at barely five foot nine inches. Don't let this fool you; he is strong and muscular.

Peter is a very serious person. He rarely even talks, as he is not interested in small talk. Peter is not very personable, and can seem cold and unforgiving. In fact, this is not him at all. Once you get to know him, you will see that he is just a teddy bear, and is really caring and supportive. But in his professional life, it is his duty to be a guard, and he does it well.

H i s t o r y
Peter likes to say that he isn't a very interesting person. He has no living relatives, and came from the north, near the rebels. Peter's family were all farmers, so he was originally in caste 4. One day when Peter was nine, the rebels, normally fairly peaceful, came and attacked his farm. Perhaps they wanted the food, or they had a violent leader. He does not know, but what Peter does know is that they killed all of his family. The only reason Peter lived was because he was in the stables, milking one of their cows. He was able to hide behind her and avoid his death.

After this tragedy, Peter became mute. He would not speak, and grew up as an orphan on the farm. Eventually, Peter began to speak to the animals again, and began speaking-though very little-to people at the age of seventeen. This is when he moved to the capitol and became a guard because he wanted to learn how to protect himself and others. He hates rumors, especially when they involve the rebels; norther or southern. This is the event that changed Peter into a very serious person.

jaxon ryker draven ;; please, just jax
     ( eighteen & male & illegal gardener )
           B I O G R A P H Ytell 'em that i need more fire
Probably the only guard who is thankful for the draft. I mean, you would be too if you were this guy. First of all, can you imagine a face like this going to waste? Look at his golden hair? It's never shined in the sun or been this clean. And his blue eyes have never glittered with happy specks, his pink lips have never been so soft and his olive skin has never glowed. This draft? This draft saved his LIFE.

Jaxon is an only child. And holy shit, is he thankful for that. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if he knew he was allowing his own siblings to be treated like he was. See, Jaxon, before all of this, was an eight. Yeah, an untouchable thanks to his parents. They were drug addicts, obsessed with heroin and each other. Jax was the only sane person in his home, doing little bits of work here and there to make little money. And what was it used for? More heroin. That was all they wanted. That and sex, it's a miracle Jaxon was their only offspring. Eventually Jaxon was forced to work more, they forced him to go out and find something. Anything to bring in money.

Son to a pair of abusive addicts, that was Jaxon. Illegally gardening, that was Jaxon. He was illegally a gardener, as he was born in the eighth caste and not the seventh. And the abuse? Well, no one really knew about that. I mean yeah it was sketchy when Jaxon wore long sleeves and long pants in the sweltering heat, but hey he was doing his job. And he was really good at it, so maybe it was a thing? He was like, a landscape architect pretty much. It was awesome. You know, until his parents got angry he wasn't bringing in enough money and beat him. Sometimes he would be knocked unconscious, but he was okay with it. He woke up every time, yeah covered in bruises and scars that would follow him until the end of his life, but he was alive.

And then, the draft. And the fire. See, when you are visited by military officers and told that they need your son--you know, the person who works all day and night to make money for your necessities-- you do reckless things. Things like slam the door in their face and set your pile of wood home on fire. Why? Because you would rather die than have them take him away for you. If they take him, they take the money, and we all know that means. And you, well you burn to death. And you son manages to be saved by the officers, escaping with moderate burns on his legs and quite the cough. But hey, that was like, six months ago. He's healed now, now his legs are just scarred and crackled, the bruises and cuts on his back have started to heal, and he's alive. All thanks to this wonderful draft.

Leon, or Leo as he usually likes to go by, is a cool and collected guy. Not many things appear to faze him, unless the situation includes a close friend that is in trouble. In addition, he is also a pretty happy-go-lucky and stubbornly optimistic person. No matter how shitty the world is, Leo doesn't allow anything to shit on his parade. However, that doesn't mean that he's stupid and unaware of his surroundings. Maybe he is. However, he's smarter than he actually lets on (probably). Originally born in a family of sevens with a single mother, Leo learned to be independent at a young age. He has more of a deeper dark side of him than he allows people to see. Even if it slips up sometimes, whenever he showed his charming, boyish smile, people usually forget about it.

Because of how positive Leo is, they assume that he's never gone through any trials and tribulations in his life. However, they're wrong. It's all because of the things he's gone through in his life that he grew up to become the person he is right now. A person would've never guessed it when they first meet Leo because he's just a ray of sunshine. What they don't know is that Leo is just really good at hiding any of his problems behind a subject changer and a smile.

Leon Preston Black, born on March 13, was born to Preston Aspen Black and Eden Melanie Grace. His family was a group of sevens and yet they were still able to maintain their own happiness as a poor family that was second to last in the caste system. Leo's parents worked as manual laborers, specifically farm hands. However, Leo's parents weren't originally sevens. Leo's dad used to be a two, working as a guard, and his mom was a four, the daughter of a wealthy insurance broker. Leo's mom used to be one of the candidates in the Selection. Instead of falling in love with the crown prince at the time, she starting forming feelings for one of the palace guards, which was Leo's dad. However, that was against the rules. When their secret was discovered, they were both kicked out of the palace and Leo's mom was disowned by her parents because she disgraced and humiliated the entire family. That was how they ended up as eights, being stripped of their previous castes, but slowly they were lucky enough to work their way up the caste system to become sevens. However, even through all those trials and tribulations, they were still able to maintain their happy little family.

Even when Leo's dad died when he was seven years old, his mom was emotionally strong enough to keep providing for her son and maintain the same happiness in the family. However, after his dad's death, Leo became a bit of a troublemaker. Since he was an only child and his mom usually left him home alone all the time since she had to work, Leo had a lot of spare time on hand and didn't really have anything to entertain himself; therefore, he often sneaked out of the house and explored his community. He hung out with the wrong people and started to rebel. You know, just your regular teenager in his or he rebellious stage. Leo grew out of it when he saw his mom cry for the first time. When he was little, he occasionally heard his mom cry late at night when she thought that he was asleep. However, witnessing it was a different story. This made him change and try to become a better person, not only for himself but also for his mom.

When Leo first heard about the drafting for new palace guards, he was immediately on board and applied for the position. Since Leo doesn't have a lot of memories of his dad, this profession will not only help him support his family but it will also give him a connection with his deceased father. He was only seventeen years old at the time and his mom was aging as it is. If he was able to move up multiple castes in one sitting, then he'll gladly become a guard; therefore, when he received the news that he was selected for the draft, it was one of the best days of his life. He was so thankful to be chosen.
