Kayla Tocco (kaylatocco) | 107 comments I'm in a book rut and am going to the library tonight! What are your favorites on this list so that i can get some recommendations on where to start. Honestly, the sheer length of the list overwhelms me and I think that's why I'm in the rut I'm in lol. Any help appreciated!

Tricia | 18 comments I looked at my app to see what got high ratings. Of the more recent books, I would recommend The Art of Fielding, 1Q84, Half of a Yellow Sun, and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.

Sarah (sarahbethie) | 438 comments Beginning with familiar or favorite authors is an option. Especially for titles whose films you've seen. You'll have an idea about the story line. Short stories are another option. You will have a greater sense of accomplishment by getting a few titles under your belt.

If you're a fan of Charlotte Brontë I heartily recommend Charlotte Brontë: A Fiery Heart by Claire Harman. The backstory will unpack Brontë's work and provide much needed insight that is lacking from the reader's perspective. While I don't believe this is necessary for all authors, Charlotte wrote from a very personal slant which permeates her work.

Good luck!

J_BlueFlower (j_from_denmark) | 387 comments Here is my suggestion: Starting with the top books on the Listopia-list
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...

These are the most liked/commonly read/most classic.... good place to start.

However one may object that these books are crowd pleasers. If you feel like getting into the more exploratory/elitist/.... parts of the list, try the top books on “1001 books list in Wilson order”:

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...
(Wilson score combined rating and number of rating into one number).
