Roadwork is the 10th book in Stephen King Challenge that we'll be starting July 15th.

Count me in!

I've got mine and I'm ready to go. i'll probably start reading sometime today.

I got started yesterday. Lots of character build up so far.

About half way through - front row seat to a train wreck!

uh oh! I haven't started yet.

I'm currently listening to it. I've listened to around 1hr and 30 minutes. somewhere after nov. 23rd. I think Bart must be a fellow Capricorn. he doesn't seem to like change and has trouble letting things go.. lol, just saying!

I've just finished it. Not the greatest book by King for sure, but I enjoyed it. I don't know anything about being Capricorn, lol, but I agree about Bart not liking change or being able to let go of things. He definately has issues!

I've really enjoyed this King challenge so far. Hope we keep it going!

i love doing these too Terry. I finished this morning. wow! I just don't know what to say. since it seems to be only me & u here, I'm not going to use spoiler tags. I thought the reason Bart was clinging to the house was because of his son but he clearly states that is not it. so I have no idea why he was so against the road. maybe it was just everything all at once and he just didn't know how to deal with all of it or couldn't. I ended up liking him by the end of the book. I didn't love the book but I didn't hate it. I'd say 3.5 stars..idk, maybe 4? this really was a good read. I don't like change either but I'm not as bad as Bart, I hope! :p

oh yay!! next is cujo, right? i haven't read it. i haven't read a lot of king's work. ok here's the story. back in the day, i loved the movie Christine so i decided i was going to read the book. i would've been maybe 13, 14 at the oldest. i did not like it at all and for many, many years i did not read Stephen king. nope, i didn't like him and wasn't having any of it. then i joined this book club. and we read Duma key. ok, i like it not bad. and then we read THE SHINING and i was on board after that! and here we are :)

oh and after cujo is the dark tower book! that will be interesting. I've heard a lot of praise for that series.

I agree, Latasha and I ended up liking Bart also. It did seem that King was trying not to give us a specific reason why Bart ended up doing what he did. I figured it had to be his son that was the main reason despite what he said. The rest of his life really wasn't that bad. Even so, that overall feeling of sliding into giving up everything felt so real and believable. I think that's why I ended up liking it and going with 4 stars.

I can see that :) I haven't read a lot of these King books either, so a lot of these are first time reads for me too. I started out reading mostly SciFi and fantasy, and didn't really start digging into the horror so much until more recently. I'm playing catch-up now. I would say that King is at or near the top of my favorite horror authors list so far, though.

It looks like the next few on the list would be Danse Macabre, Cujo, The Running Man and the first Dark Tower, although I wasn't sure if we would do Danse Macabre or not.

I really need to catch up with these. I've wanted to read the King books again for years!

As far as I'm concerned it would be enough of a challenge to read any book of his other that those of the Dark Tower series, Misery, Salem's Lot, Green eyes of the Dragon, The dead Zone and maybe one or two more short ones. Everything else is unbearable.

I'm finding ones u mentioned that I like quiet a bit. To each his own, right?

I've been watching along, but one 'rule' I made for this year was no re-reads. So since I've read a lot of the early SK's I haven't been commenting a lot.

I "need" to read Cujo, Christine, Cycles of the Dragon, Misery, Lissie's Story, Thinner, Tommyknockers, Dolores Claiborne, Under the Dome, Insomnia and some of the anthologies. (And look into some of the others if they're interesting enough or not to try.)

Are we going to read his collections as well?

The challenge includes the collections as well, so we should read those too. Cujo is next up, so I say we start a new thread for that and start in the next week or two, if that works for everyone?
