Isn't she interesting??!!

What happened to her in Denver? Did she simply snap? How did she stay safe in Denver after the outbreak?

What made her finally come out of it and go out with Grey the way she did?

Did you love her or hate her... or like me, hate her, but forgave her?! Lol

Lila had been working in the ER the night the first viral transformation occurred there. One of the things that we learn about her personality is that she will create her own world as a defense mechanism against dealing with trauma. This is the one thing that I found most in congruent for a medical doctor. As a doctor she would have to face trauma daily, but she could not rationalize her own. It was part of the reason for why she and Wolgast divorced, pretty much against her own parent's wishes.

After that night the combined trauma from seeing the entire floor being slaughtered, (how she escaped, I can't answer,) and the fact she was pregnant again and probably feared losing her child, she just snapped.

One other incident probably occurred when her second husband was killed as well.

I have to say, I never hated her, she is indeed sympathetic, but I had to wonder what it was that she and Wolgast had in common. She was definitely much more "proper" than he was. I have to say that I did forgive Grey. Throughout the bulk of the book, he did what he could to protect her, and in the end, she "frees" him and allows him to die.

I was satisfied that she never stopped loving Wolgast. Her second husband was more because she got pregnant, not because she loved him all that much. That made the ending for Wolgast all that more special.

Thanks Beth, I like that insight. I work with and around hospitals and regularly see law enforcement and medical personnel fall in love, date and marry. I don't know what it is about the personalities or the jobs that makes this happen, but it is common. Leave it to Cronin (by accident maybe, but maybe by design) to realize that!
