Shapeshifters don't have an actual true form. They prefer a certain form, but don't actually have a certain appearance. Some prefer to be an animal, while others would rather be a human. Some may even just stay as a tree, they all have different opinions on what they want to be. Either way, they can shapeshift into an exact copy of anything they touch, and can shapeshift into anything from the mind. Beware of these beings, don't underestimate them, and stay cautious... Remember that these things are the most untrustworthy creature out there. Nothing about them are safe.
