Sans Auteur

Some works need moving to Anonymous or Unknown, others have named authors that can be tracked down on WorldCat or similar.

bumping this. should this just be merged with unknown?

If we don't have any volunteers who want to try tackling some of the books first, yes.

The main reason I didn't merge with Unknown initially is that some fit as Anonymous instead, and fishing all editions out of Unknown/Anon is a nightmare IMO :)

Reduced it by a few pages of books. Still a long way to go.

Working on this now! I have a few hours free, so I'll see how much I can get done. :)

I wasn't keeping close track but I think I edited around 100 titles. I'll be without internet most of the weekend but will be glad to continue contributing to this project next week!

Many do/should have authors, but some will need to be listed as Anonymous or Unknown as appropriate (see their author descriptions if you're not sure of the difference).

Historical remnants.

When Amazon bought Goodreads, most remaining Unknowns from January 2012 were able to be restored using Amazon data. However, some small percentage no longer existed in the Amazon database or for other reasons could not be fixed. Some have been corrected since by tireless librarians. Others linger on.

ok that means if I'm bored at the weekend I can have a look into them and don't mess up a kind of "for deletion marked" category . If I can ad something useful it's fine, if not it's ok too.

Those are the issues that Rivka is referring to in message 12. It's a separate issue to the authors listed above. Good luck though! :)

hm in the "no author" still 3 books are stucked and I don't know why (shouldn't be a caching issue after a few days... one of them had a "no author" edition which I changed today, but the other two... no idea)

The front page is the most heavily cached part of the site AFAIK.

I came across sans auteur as a second author in the author with dates project. Solved a few, but compared to the overall number it seems quite a lot of work to be left.
