Please nominate one book here for our June theme of
alternate apocalypses -- end of world situations that can never be on THIS timeline, because they did not start as written.

In print is considered a nice touch.

Laura Montgomery | 39 comments I've read this twice, but I could read it again: Dies the Fire, by S.M. Stirling.

Also, Birmingham's Axis of Time books were really good.

Christopher (crdmogs) Well the first ones that pop into my head:

1. Swan Song - I don't think it's particularly good, but I think it specifies the nuclear war as starting in the early '90s.

2. The Stand - I think it ties itself specifically to a year if not a date in there - does 1988 or '85 ring a bell?

3. You could actually add Robotech to that: the SDF-1 crashes on Earth in 1999.

Pretty much anything from the 1960s-1980s featuring the Cold War turning hot...let's see..

Which one do you want to nominate, Laura, Christopher?

Christopher (crdmogs) Oh sorry!

My nomination is Swan Song - I can't specify the date, but I can tell you it's an "alternate timeline" now for sure. I remember specifically that the war begins with nuclear-armed B-1 bombers flying SAC alert missions; since we modified the entire fleet and made them conventional-only, and also stood down SAC in 1992, it for sure is an "alternate Cold War" story now. :)

Clyde (wishamc) I nominate Lucifer's Hammer. (If it falls within the theme that is. I am not sure how to define alternate apocalypses.)

Laura Montgomery | 39 comments Dies the Fire, please, 'cause I know it meets the criteria.

It starts with Apocolypse and ends with Apocolypse. And the Flame Deluge should have started nearly 60 years ago so definitely not this timelime.
