I'm all for Dragons in fantasy books, but when it comes to fantasy romance...I feel annoyed.

Does anyone else have this problem?
Do Dragons in romance novels just put you off?
Do you know of any that are good?

Eastofoz Joy have you read Katie MacAlister's Aisling Grey Guardian series? The dragons there ooze sex! Drake is one of my all time favourite heroes for his sex appeal alone. Shana Abé's Dràkon series also has very sexy dragons. I like the dragon idea overall --very dominating/strong/alpha (lol!)

The Shana Abe' is actually one of the few series in this area that I am planning to read. It sounds interesting, I am just having trouble getting myself to pick up the first book...

Eastofoz Joy, it's written in the first person and it's not always 100% romance but I really liked it. I didn't really like the last one though. She's started another dragon series that picks up with one of the characters from this series called "The Silver Dragons" but I haven't read that yet --still on TBR (*sigh sigh*)

new_user Joy, you mean the Shana Abe series? I guarantee you they are good, LOL. I actually haven't come across any other dragon shifter books that I've liked, rather unfortunately, because such a powerful creature makes for an attractive hero. I'm only annoyed when the shifters are too mild. *coughDeborahCookecough* I mean, you would expect a dragon shifter, of all things, to make an impression. They shouldn't be sweet and cuddly.

Katie MacAlister's writing is good, but her books lean more towards the chick lit side.

Eastofoz I'd agree with NU about MacAlister and the chick-litty kind of writing. I don't like chick-lit but those I really liked.

And yeah dragons can't be beta/mild --what in the world are these authors thinking?! (lol!)

Yeah, the Shana Abe' series. I want to read them, I just keep becoming turned off b/c of the who fantasy romance with dragons thing.

I don't remember the name...but I once read this fantasy romance book with dragons in it. It was about this village that would take virgins and chain them to a pole in order to appease the dragon. It ended up turning about that the dragon should take on human form, and he seduced her. The writing was terrible, and there was not much of a plot to the story. I ended up hating it, and it turned me off to the subject for a LONG time. I was a teen when I read it though, so maybe I would react differently now...

new_user LOL. Corny, huh? Well, the prose in this one is beautiful and there's probably about as much sex as in an Eloisa James book, so I wouldn't worry about it overrunning the story. There's a complete conflict and plot and an entire culture built and the best part is that there are no villagers, LOL. These dragons are cunning, dangerous English Earls. ;) There's a costume ball and a robbery at a museum and everything, LOL.

So, not really comparable, I would hope, LOL. Maybe it's more appropriate to say it's HR with dragons?

Yeah, the FR I read had no plot to it at all! The dragon saw her attached to the pole. He shifted into a human, and unchained her. Brought her back to his cave where they proceeded to do nothing but sex. Then she went to her village, everyone saw she was alive, and she ended up flying away with her dragon. VERY boring!

That plot line sounds real original. LOL! I had a bad experience with a romance Dragon story too which put me off as well. I don't remember the title...not worth remembering but it was just weird.
