Maria I found this series to be very involved and heavy --- I don't know that I've read anything this intricate .... but try The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wrecker- it's a very interesting story. The writing was as meaty as Deborah Harkness.

Jackie there's an all souls trilogy group on facebook and people on it have given ideas/recommendations for other similar books. Worth a look.
