You may want to start with something like Africa: A Biography of the Continent which was read by the group two years' ago for a broad overview.

Can anyone suggest a curriculum of 100+ works most essential to getting an overview of understanding of African history, art, culture, politics, economics and development? I lived in Uganda for 6 months and am decently acquainted with its history but want an overview of the issues of the continent at large so I'm more broadly knowledgeable and prepared for further work and travel through the continent.
I understand this may be a Quixotic quest, academically speaking, but if anyone is willing to indulge me in the attempt, I'd greatly appreciate it.
