What was the cause of the skin coming off the bottoms of Wayne's feet? I look at this as a detail indicating a kind of benign neglect of the parents. What was the purpose of this problem? And in the end what was the cause? Missed it.

That is a very good question. I wondered at first if it had to do with some side effect of the medication he was required to be on. He didn't know what he was taking and so would not be aware of side effects either since the parents did not share this with him. An outward sign of the internal struggle that was occurring?
