Has anybody read any of these overlooked novels (list from the guardian website)

http://www.theguardian.com/books/2014...

0/10 for me but I'm not sure how many really catch my eye!

I have read none either :-P

I have read a lot of independent novels that I would deem overlooked but none of those. Interestingly (this is irrelevant but cool nonetheless) someone I follow on Tumblr does a thing where people send her a book they feel is under-appreciated (i.e. hasn't got that many GR ratings) and she makes a post dedicated to it so others can be aware of it.

Gill | 5719 comments Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant is a lovely, lovely book. I used an audio version and it was sooooo good!

My parents had a copy of The Young Visiters. They were very fond of the book.

Angela M Like Gil, the only one on this list that I have read is Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant . I enjoyed it as well as a number of other books by Anne Tyler.

Jenny (jeoblivion) | 4893 comments I've read The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa which is also one of my all time favourites and Elective Affinitiesby Goethe (almost inevitable when German)

Hot Mess Sommelière ~ Caro I read none of them, not even Elective Affinities even though I'm German... education fail :(

Shirley | 4177 comments I've read The Ice House by Nina Bawden. It was quite good, but I certainly wouldn't rave about it.

Elective Affinities by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and
Oblomov by Ivan Goncharov - a real masterpiece!!!! But I liked Goete's as well!

Diane S ☔ Only the Anne Tyler one for me. But sounds like a worthy challenge.

John Frankham (johnfrankham) The Young Visitors by the 9-year-old Daisy Ashford was certainly widely read when I was a teenager. I think she describes Mr Salteena as an old man of 25, or something like that!

I've not read anything by Anne Tyler. Is she worth a try, do you think?

message 19: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ I think so, I liked the one mentioned on this list and The Accidental Tourist. Some of hers are not as good as these two.

It is one of the rare occasion when I liked the film better than the book!
