Who will be joining in with Nine Princes in Amber by Roger Zelazny?

I've been expecting this for some time. Have some friends talking a lot about this guy roger zelazny and his world of worlds or something like that. He was so passioned about it that I think I owe him to read this one. Have some graeat expectations so, I hope this book is up to fullfilling them!
If it's worth saying I will be joining in!

I love this series.

Some really love it, while others really dislike it. I hope this introduction is a good one.

I also have heard that other Roger Zelazny books are much better.
This, I can hardly believe. I have read some short stories and finished one other series by him... The Changeling Saga.

Not as much a favorite for me, but I did like it.

I have a suggestion for anyone reading this book.
Try to get The Chronicles of Amber or The Great Book of Amber. The series is made up of short books (compared to many modern day ones).
The first 5 books which are together in "The Chronicles of Amber," have under 800 total pages.
All 10 books (of which the last five are a different storyline) combined in "The Great Book of Amber," are under 1300 pages.

Started it today.

I'm going to be reading this one. I've had a copy on my shelves for years and just never got round to it. Looking forward to it, and it'll be nice to read something short for a change!

This is my favorite cover of the first five books.
The Chronicles of Amber: Volume I

I've read this novel several times since it came out, so I guess it qualifies as a favorite of mine. I think it incorporates a lot of what I always liked about Roger Zelazny's writing. His often unique and original world building, his characters and the recurring themes he worked into his stories.

I will be joining. I've had the omnibus edition on my shelf for at least a year.

For whatever reason I've never read Roger Zelazny's works, so this will be my first of his novel's. I haven't picked up my copy from my local library yet but this is what's under the book's description:

Publication Information: Garden City, N.Y., Doubleday, 1970.

If that's true this copy is older than I am (and that's saying something, lol). Anyway, I look forward to reading (and discussing) this novel.

Ive had the first few in the series for ages and have never got around to reading any of them (not even sure where i got them - Bootsale impsulse buy i expect!) look forward to it !

I loved Chronicles of Amber when I was young, and while I don't always trust young me's literary judgment anymore, I'd love to reread them.

Started it last night, got through the first three chapters. Got me really hooked. Although I'm not much fan of first person told stories. I really don't know why, I had the same feeling about our may reading (Steelheart).

There are a couple reasons, at least, for the first person. One, I believe, to keep the mystery throughout. You get to know as the character does.

And another reason..... well... it gets spoilery there.
Let's just say...you have to read all of the first five books.

First person can be tricky to do well, but it has its points and sometimes benefits the story.

Ok, I promise to get through the first five books, to see if my feelings about first person change a little bit.

Personally I think first person was the best way to tell this story. It allows us, as the readers, to discover this world and the mysteries around the events taking place at the same time the narrator/protagonist does.

I really think the first person view also helped with making YOU also question and wonder what the hell is going on. The whole thing that got me hooked was that I felt like I was in the same situation as the MC.

I'm new to the group so I will definitely be joining. I haven't read these but I actually already have bought the first book. I had planned on reading but kept putting it off. So this is just what I need hopefully to get me through it. Hi Everyone!

Just buy the Great Book of Amber. That's the best to get them all!
