I'm not a big standalone person. I prefer TV to movies. I like character development and have problems letting go, but my TBR would be so much more manageable if I read more standalone titles!

I totally understand! I am the SAME way!

Sometimes I like to read standalones after binging a long series. I prefer series though as I tend to have a problem letting go too! My favorites to date are Hallowed Eve, The Short Life of Sparrows, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, Jezebel which I consider a standalone even though the author wrote a companion novel to answer lingering questions, Greenglass House which now appears to possibly have a sequel coming and Don't Look Back.
I am so bad at reading standalones. I'm also really bad at completing series. For example, I've read 96 books so far this year. Of those books, only 35 were standalones. That leaves 61 books from series. 42 of those 61 are from different series (if that makes sense). I feel like I need to seek out more standalones. Like you guys my TBR would probably be a lot better with fewer series on it. lol
