Camille (camillesbookishadventures) I would li!e to read it this month if anyone is interested. FYI the new edition I reserved from the library is called "The Last Queen of India". So, who is in?

I'm in! I'm so glad that you started a buddy read for it.

I think the Last Queen of India is the original title. They changed it for the US release for some reason.

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) Oh, right. I like the original title better, it sounds more serious.
I'll start reading as soon as I get it.

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) I just got a message from the library saying it's arrived! So will go and get it tomorrow.

I've just started this. I'll report back in when I'm further along.

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) I started it yesterday and read the first six chapters. I'm enjoying it so far.

I've flown through the book! I'm about 75% done and should finish it tonight.

I'm so afraid of what's going to happen to the characters. I know it can't be good. It's different reading about the British Empire from the other side. Sad.

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) I finished it today. I just flew through it and now I want to read Moran's other books!

I finished too. Even though I knew it was foolish, I was still kind of hoping that more people would make it out to a new life... that was rough at the end!

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) Yes, I found the end very rough with the descriptions of what happened to people, Indians and Brits alike. The only thing that bothered me a little but was the angst in the chapter where they go to London.

It has definitely made me want to learn more about the history of India.

I agree, there was really no need for the angst. Especially alongside the real emotion evoked by real events. It makes it worse knowing so many of these things really happened in history.

Why do people do these things to each other? Why do they feel the need to conquer and obliterate? Age-old questions, I suppose, with no answers. :)

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) I think it's just human nature, some people want power and wealth, while us "weaklings" are happy to sit back and be peaceful.
