Jasmine | 160 comments Just finished - really, really good - I loved how this book was crafted. A few things were able to be seen as an adult but as a kid I probably would of been shocked.
Anyone else, enjoying?

It's 400 pp - is it really that long, or is the font huge? I'm still working on all the Caldecott Honor books + all the Newbery Honor books, as they coincided this month.

The description of this made it seem like not much more than yet another fantasy adventure. Is there anything extra here, anything that will give it staying power?

Jasmine | 160 comments My copy was 381 and the font was bigger. It took me 3 days.

I think it does have a bit more teeth then some of the other books. It's about a blind, child thief which, in my mind separates it from other other like stories. The characters are especially endearing and are written very well.

I thought it was excellent.

I am a bit behind as well, and I have so many currently reading books to complete that I might not get to this for a while.

Jenny | 722 comments Here is my review:
This is a fun fantasy with a host of unique/interesting characters. First, of course, you have Peter Nimble, a blind orphan who is the world's greatest thief. Then you have Sir Tode...a knight/cat/donkey and Peter's sidekick. There is Professor Cake who believes in Peter and sends him off on a great adventure and gives him the fantastic eyes which have magical powers. And there are all the thieves, each with their own particular strength in thievery. There is Princess Peg and the other children and all of the ravens. And of course, there is the king and his "monsters". Plenty of good versus evil (although sometimes it's not totally clear who is good and who is evil...and often the good characters possess traits that we wouldn't typically think of as good...such as Peter being such a skilled thief. Along with a host of unique characters, there is danger, adventure and a bit of magic. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next in the series.

I am hoping to get my 13 year old to read this but she is in the middle of a series right now and so she won't get to it for a couple of weeks, I don't think.

Dena McMurdie (batchofbooks) | 18 comments I love this book. I read it a couple years ago and then bought a copy because I enjoyed it so much. I'm hoping to read it to my kids in a year or two.
