Discussion for At the Water's Edge by Sara Gruen. Did you enjoy it? How did it compare to other books by this author? Would you recommend it to a friend?

Rosie | 1 comments I enjoyed it! I felt like the main story had a slow start, but in retrospect, I wonder if the author intentionally crafted it that way to make Maddie's journey more of a triumph. I have only read Water for Elephants, which I also loved, though may be a more superiorly written book. The characters in At the Water's Edge start out so unlikeable, but that sets up a contrast for later. Just my thoughts. Really loved reading it.

Awesome! Thanks Rosie. I don't have the comparison to Water for Elephants (haven't even seen the movie), but I did find the characters difficult to relate to in the start of the novel - to the point where I stopped reading it. Maybe I should pick it up again.
