Grace (markedforcourt) | 10 comments Prompt: The road seemed to never end

“Some private school this is,” the kid next to me muttered. I didn’t know whether or not to reply; I had no opinion on the quality of Blackwell Reform School since I hadn’t seen it yet. If the school bus we rode had any indication towards the school’s quality though I’d say the kid was right.
We’d been driving for at least two hours down a road that seemed to have no end. As we had travelled away from the manicured lawns of upper class Cleveland and into rolling farmland, people had for the most part begun to get restless and concerned I included.
I stood up, hanging onto the seat in front of me for balance. “Is this bus going to Blackwell?” I yelled to the driver. Suddenly there was an explosion of noise.
“Aren’t we headed to Acadia School for Girls?”
“Um isn’t this bus for Grand Ridge Academy?”
“I’m just here to head home from art camp and not to be a bother but we passed my stop an hour and a half ago.”
I shot a quick glance at the bus driver who seemed unshaken by the sudden panic of his passengers. The kid next to me had become white as snow. “This isn’t a private school. This is a murder plot,” he whispered to himself. That caught the attention of a guy in the row behind us.
“There are some things worse than death you know,” he said. That got the bus real riled up.
“This really isn’t the time.”
“Isn’t that a bit over the top?”
“What if he has a point?”
“Could all of you shut up?” That was the boy who had spoken up earlier. “What I said was meant for the kid in the row in front of me.” All eyes were on me now. “No the one next to the redhead.” The eyes were now on my seatmate. “He’s doing exactly what we shouldn’t be doing: panicking. We outnumber the bus driver by quite a bit and if we get enough people on board we can take him out and drive the bus to the nearest town.” His voice dropped as he said the last sentence. His plan was absolutely insane but it had potential.
I took a deep breath and raised my hand slightly. “I’m in.”

Grace (markedforcourt) | 10 comments “Are you sure that’s all you remember?”
“Yes.”
There was more but those images were too close to my heart to lay bare in this cold, white room. To this man that was all sharp edges, who I knew could tear me apart, who had torn me apart and put me together again more times than I could count. Who would tear Cat apart if he found her.
The truth was warm body and a cold soul, two people drowning in each other’s company. Taking refuge in one another for just one night.
The polished version left all of that behind. I’d woken up that morning to find the bed across the room empty, and the door closed but surprisingly unlocked. There was a hole melted through the lock. I almost couldn’t bear it, but I knew it was for the best. If they knew what she could do, we’d never see each other again. At least this way we had a chance.

I was gonna continue with the other thing but I felt like being melodramatic
