Personally I like to write in the morning as soon as I wake up or whenever the mood to write reveals itself. What time of day do you write?

Whenever I can. I do best at night.

For me it also depends on which book I'm writing. It's weird sometimes how when I write varies sometimes.

I write primalily at night, but I also write whenever I have time or when the mind strikes.

Dakota This might be a strange way to do it but I tend to start brainstorming first thing in the morning (maybe 11am-ish?) and I don't write anything until maybe midnight.

I tend to be more creative at night, besides it's (kind of, minus all the crazy drug abuse) the schedule Hunter S. Thompson was on and that's enough to justify it to me.

Laura Guilbault I'd say I mostly write at night, but I also write whenever I have a new idea.

I have a question:
How long do you guys write at a time?
And how many words do you write per day?

Im currently writing a fan fiction and I like to write a chapter per day so around 600 words. That usually takes half an hour to write and half an hour to type up and check over :)

@Laura
I usually write for half an hour, like Hermione, then revise it (half an hour). Then, I take a break and do whatever it is I have to do (cook, read, work, etc.), and then look over the writing again with fresh eyes (fifteen minutes). Finally, I edit it for grammatical errors and such (fifteen to thirty minutes , depending on how long it is).
That's usually the process I go through , so for a long chapter probably one and a half or two hours (not counting break in between). For a short chapter , maybe one hour fifteen minutes...?
As for your second question , I'm not sure how to answer this. I don't really count by words , I just try to get a chapter done , no matter what length. I like to write long chapters , which might sound a little absurd , because then I get into the 'writing flow' and ideas just keep coming (whereas I'll have to scribble them down somewhere).
So yes. Those are my particularly long answers to your questions. Hope that somewhat helped !

To be honest, I have no regular writing schedule. I have been pretty busy lately, so I haven't written many words. I don't always like to count my words because a) I write by hand and b) it feels like it distracts from actually writing with what you feel. I count pages and hours more often than time because I feel more accomplished.

Laura Guilbault Good answer, Pie.

Thanks :) Do you feel the same way?

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura Guilbault Yes definitely. I write by keyboard on Pages so I always have a word-count next to my stories, but I think that instead of counting the words and trying to get a certain amount before the hour is up, I'll just focus on the fact that I'm doing this because I love it, not because I have to because well, I don't!
:)
