Roleplaying can be a great way to improve a character. On this discussion topic, feel free to get inside your character's head by pretending to be them! It might sound weird at first, but it can really help. I will create a situation for your character(s) to react to and we will go from there!
Here is the first situation:
Your character is baking a cake with their best friend when they see that friend add a few drops of strange glowing liquid into the batter...
Go from there!

((Let's see if this'll work, super excited ! Who wants to be the best friend?))

Faye was conflicted . And the fact that it was her best friend wasn't helping .

Faye's friend had invited her over to bake a cake, and she wasn't sure what to think of it . Her friend knew she dreaded and sincerely hated baking.

It wasn't that she hated delicious pastries and frosted cakes, she just hated MAKING them . Why? No one really knew . It was just kind of something that was IN a person, like fear of heights or water or anything else . It was how their brain worked .

Faye was upset. Her friend had invited her , basically, to her worst nightmare . And knowing that it was her worst nightmare . Was it betrayal? Possibly punishment, for something she had done ? Was it declaring a friendship war , where neither side really knew what was going on and the whole thing was resolved in a week?

Faye's mind was an overcrowded (and overworked , really ) train station, each train of thought wilder than the one before . And someday , all those trains would , inevitably, crash .

Faye tended to overthink things , even if they were quite simple . If they didn't have complications , Faye would create complications. So, of course, when she finally accepted her friend's invitation, she got a deep, gut feeling that it was going to get complicated .

((Note: this was kind of a short, silly little start to the role play . My real character , Faye, doesn't really hate baking , I just needed a way to introduce her , and something to show off her personality . For now I guess I'll stick with the baking hatred thing .
Also, I'm incredibly sorry for the bad writing and metaphor , where did I even get trains from? *sighs* I guess I'll leave it and hope it wasn't too confusing .
I'm looking forward to seeing what the rest of you guys are going to add ! And, to Faye's best friend , I hope you make this story interesting . :D ))

I look over towards Faye, who inevitably is moping around the kitchen. AGAIN. I know what she is thinking- that I'm a terrible monster who ruined her life again and her chances at making it through this are exactly 0.0001% Very funny Faye, I know all that already.
I slip my hand into my back pocket, feeling that the bottle is still there. Good, I whisper just so no one can hear me but the monster in my head.

{Stephanie, you are not a bad writer and I actually liked the randomness of the train metaphor! It showed that random things come in your head sometimes, especially when you're overthinking! I have no idea where I'm going with this. I also wanted to say that anyone who does this should not kill, maim, or seriously injure without permission!}

{really sorry , not to be rude , but what's your character's name ? }

message 5: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 08, 2016 01:43PM) (new)

{Sorry! I usually write in the first person and sorta forgot we were roleplaying XD Her name is Eve Rayner.}

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

{Thanks! And I do that too}
I nervously watched Eve as she started getting out all of the ingredients and things we needed for baking a cake . I didn't know a thing about baking . What were you supposed to do first ? And what was up with PREHEATING an oven ? Who did that? And why were such large amounts of sugar needed? Why, one cake probably had , er, 10000 grams of sugar (I wouldn't know)!
I watched , chewing my lip , as Eve walked over, handed me the recipe for the cake, and said something about 'looking it over.'

Alright, I thought. Baking didn't make sense, but maybe the recipe would simplify some things .

"Look this over, Okay?" I say to Faye, walking over to the fridge to get the ingredients. I already have them all memorized but want to test her. I know she can read, even if she can't calm herself down much when it comes to baking.
As she looks over the paper, I take the bottle out of my pocket quickly. I twist open the lid, tentative because I don't know exactly what to do.
So I wing it.

'Flour. Sugar. Eggs. Eggs?' I look down at the recipe . 'Why eggs? Baking holds too many mysteries,' I think to myself. Whoever invented , er, baking must have been either a genius or a complete and total idiot (who just mixed in random foods and then stuck the product in an oven).

Moving on , my eyes scan through the rest of the ingredients. They all seem pretty normal (except eggs) , until my eyes catch one deceiving little tidbit on the paper . 'Rayner Powdered Gold'. First of all, Rayner? I didn't know Eve's family made , um, ingredients. Second of all, Powdered Gold? Was that a brand name , or some slang word ? Perhaps a fancy word for a simple ingredient . Maybe the food glittered like gold , or maybe the name was just meant to appeal to people .

I must've looked distant , staring at the piece of paper for so long . Then, I felt a light tap on my shoulder .

"Have you looked over it ?' Eve asked . I lifted my head, then looked back down at the paper .

"Have you anything else to tell me?" I said aloud, to the RECIPE. I hadn't meant to . Surely I was going crazy , talking to a paper. When I finally bit my lip and looked up at Eve, I was surprised she didn't look at me like I was crazy .

She simply said , "Alright then . Let's start."

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

As soon as she talks to the paper, I know that she saw it. She might be too clueless about baking to know that this isn't just a brand name.
"Come on then, crack the eggs," I say forcefully. Faye lifts the egg up in the air... and just drops it. Just like that- smash. Yolk everywhere. "What did you do that for!? You're not serious, right? I knew you were you clueless, but not that much!" I roll my eyes at her. "Go get the paper towels, in the bathroom. Just around the corner! Go!"
Now is my chance. I shake the bottle for exactly 4 seconds, then add 9 drops. I must be careful, for one extra could blow us all to bits. I breathe in and out carefully, my fingers shaking as I exhale.
Faye comes out with the towels just as I add the last drop. I freeze. She freezes. I drop the bottle into the bag of sugar. "Well hurry up! This salmonella isn't going to clean itself up!"

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Eve just blew up in front of me.
My brain needed time to process it all. First it was the rhetorical questions, then it was the commands, and then the deadliest of all of them: the eye roll.
After ordering me to get paper towels, I had mumbled a 'yes' and scrambled to get to the bathroom . Obviously the egg disaster had been an accident , but I didn't have a chance to say sorry.
When I finally got the towels and arrived back at the kitchen, I could see Eve impatiently watching me .
"This salmonella won't clean itself up !" She said.
I whispered, softly, to myself so no one else could hear: 'of course it won't.'
I bent down and started wiping off all of the sticky , yellow yolk off of the ground and counter top.
I felt especially uncomfortable doing it because Eve wasn't helping . What did that mean? Was our friendship officially over ? Was this the declaration of war? Or, perhaps, a cruel prank?

'The world may never know.' I thought miserably to myself .

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

I immediately feel guilty about yelling at Faye. But then again, I don't. Why am I friends with her? My mind spins like a ferris wheel of its hinges, giving me a headache. It must be the powdered gold messing with my head.
As Faye cleans up the mess, I sneak the bottle out of the sugar bag. Faye stands up. She looks straight into my eyes, then into my right hand.
And once again she has cracked open my secret like an egg.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I stand up after wiping up most of the yolk and then look at Eve to see what she is doing . It looks like she is examine a tiny bottle in her hand . When she sees me watching her , Eve immediately covers it.

Must be the powdered gold , I think . But why is she so secretive right now ? And I still haven't figured out why it goes in a cake . Eggs are strange enough.

"What's that? " I ask her, trying not to sound awkward or uncomfortable .
It's probably the first normal thing I've asked her today .

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

"Seasoning," I say quickly, "Called Powdered Gold. It's really...er-turmeric? Yeah, it's mostly turmeric. And water! Hehe... don't forget the water!!!"
Faye looks at me suspiciously.
"Okay, okay. I get it. You're mad at me. Let's start over. I'll get out the eggs this time," I say, trying to make up for my mistakes.
We work vigorously (or rather I work vigorously, I don't force her to whisk the batter) and then I carefully load the cake into the oven.
I feel so weird the whole time. I don't really know how else to describe it. I mean, I don't know what Faye will think when she finds out turmeric isn't something you put in a cake.

Or that the oven is now on fire.

((I don't know why Eve suddenly changed her mind but thought we should resolve this one soon. Except for the fire of course XD. I couldn't really figure out what exactly to do with her. Maybe we can solve the fire quickly and do a new prompt, so others can join in.))

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

{would you like to stop now ? Because honestly I'm not sure if this story is going anywhere :) }

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

((Yeah I kinda screwed up with the last comment! Would you like to post a prompt? We should probably wait until more people join in))

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

((Ok. I think that maybe with role playing we could have a folder , and then each topic would be a different story. When the role play ends , we could lock the topic and it would be a 'completed story.' We could have role play request too , where people request to create a topic for role playing and the MODs approve ))

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

((I didn't even think of that! Good idea. Feel free to make it because you came up with the idea))

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

((Ok thanks :D ))
