One of my all-time favorite books. I first read it when I was a junior in high school. Just flew through it in one weekend. Completely captivated by the psychology of it. I read it again when I was in college, and a third time a few years ago.
Looking forward to the discussion (though I'm not going to re-read it at this time).

I've always wanted to read this, but I'm so afraid of Russian authors! I don't know why! I did just buy it yesterday though. Hopefully I'll start it no later than September.
I am very glad that the group chose this book as it has been on my reading list for a long time ;) Thanks, folks! Finally, I am reading it now :)

I need to get myself a copy of this and get past my fears.
So in the book I'm currently reading (We Are Not Ourselves) one of the main characters is reading Crime and Punishment for school. Thought that was a funny coincidence :)

Maybe! I have to finish this book I'm reading now, read the book for my F2F book group, then I can start on Crime & Punishment! :)

Well I'll finish We Are Not Ourselves tonight. My F2F group meets at the end of the month, so I have to read that one first. Hoping it goes quickly (we're reading The Girls).

Usually the first month of the book we spend reading it, and discussion takes off in the second month. So you should see some discussion questions / topics coming up towards the end of August or beginning of Sept.

Yeah, what BC said. I haven't even started it yet. I'm finishing up another book at the moment but Crime and Punishment is next!
By mid-September I'd expect some people will be ready for discussions.

We're going to try a different approach for our discussion of Crime and Punishment.
We all miss the nested replies that we had on Shelfari, and want to try to create a format that will approximate that. So, we're going to start a new FOLDER for C&P and each question will be a separate topic. That way all member responses to that question will be grouped together.
If you want a sample for how that might work check out this group: Shelfari 1001 Group (and they happen to be discussing another Russian work - Anna Karenina
We think it's worth a try ... and we don't like it, we can always try something else.
Happy reading!

To add to what BC said, we'll be creating that Crime and Punishment FOLDER in September. So that's officially when discussion will begin.
If you want to ask a discussion question, you can go ahead and create your own TOPIC in that folder to pose that question.
Hope this makes sense to everyone!

The discussion folder has been started .... there is a separate topic for each question.
If you want to add a question, please start a new TOPIC within that discussion folder.

Through the story of the brilliant but conflicted young Raskolnikov and the murder he commits, Fyodor Dostoevsky explores the theme of redemption through suffering. Crime and Punishment put Dostoevsky at the forefront of Russian writers when it appeared in 1866 and is now one of the most famous and influential novels in world literature.
