I don't pretend to understand what happened here.
I recall that Yates was given a choice by Jarvis: his own life or Kat's. A part of me believes this was orchestrated by Jarvis. But, I'm not sure he would have been the one to kill Kat. Between Sebastian and his father, that would be too dangerous.
I haven't a clue!

This is definitely an open question. I'm really not sure what Jarvis would gain from killing either Yates or Kat... I was surprised and saddened that Yates was killed just after he had been cleared. It also annoys me that Kat is one again "on the market" and that Hero feels Sebastian might leave her for Kat. Not that I think for even one moment that he would.
Maybe her being on the market again gets Sebastian (and Kat) to the final reckoning that she is his past and Hero is his future.

Lauren wrote: " It also annoys me that Kat is one again "on the market" and that Hero feels Sebastian might leave her for Kat."I think by now Hero knows Sebastian has too much honor to leave her. But she may think he would secretly want to or that he might regret having had to marry her, which would be just as painful for her. I'm glad that Sebastian tried to allay her fears in this but I'm not sure how much Hero deeply and truly believes it. I hope she does.
I hope that too, Jonetta!

Jarvis didn't seem to be too surprised, but then again Jarvis doesn't let his emotion show. I find it strange that he would work to get Yates out of prison just to have him killed. He could have had him killed while in prison. I think it might have been something Yates was involved with. He started having second thoughts and decided to go with her. I don't know. I hate to blame everything on Jarvis.
Yates death has me totally confused. As much as I don't care for Jarvis, I can't see him killing Yates. To me, it sets up a potential confrontation with his daughter. He knows Sebastian's history with Kat. I can't see Jarvis making her available to Sebastian again.
I'm thinking Yate's murder is by an enemy of Kat or Sebastian. Maybe for Kat's spying history or maybe hoping that Sebastian will hurt Hero by going to Kat. This will anger Jarvis and cause even more animosity between the two men Hero loves.
It will be interesting to see if this comes up in a future book.
