Terry goes through the evidence over and over again to make sure he hasn't missed anything. He visits the suspects in their own homes/offices to see how they live and if there are any new clues. Harry seems to be more of a guy who finds a clue and follows it, no matter where it leads. He isn't afraid to do some things that may not be legal, like breaking into someone's house. It seems he will do anything to solve the case.
I don't know if I have a preference between the two investigators. I can see advantages to both.
We certainly see Terry poring over the file folders a lot. He maybe thinks more on his seat, while Harry thinks on his feet, although that's drawing too tight a distinction probably.
I agree with the distinction that Terry is more of a thinker and Harry a man of action. I do think that Terry jumped to conclusions to easily. Harry follows the clues and they rarely lead him down the wrong path.
I agree with all the previous replies, all offer great insights. I'll add that Harry is big on momentum, he wants to find his suspect during "the first 48". Terry is more methodical. As a profiler, he probably doesn't get a case on his desk until it starts looking like a serial killer with multiple prior victims.
