A Teaser Quote!

Inside Roarke's Stargazer 5000X sports car, Eve engages the computer:
Computer: Computer Engaged. How may I assist you?
As it was the same husky female voice he'd installed in her home unit, Eve felt obliged to give him a baleful stare.
Eve: "Who the hell is this?"
Roarke: "You don't recognize it, do you?"
Eve: "Should I?"
Roarke: "It's you, darling. After sex."
Eve: "Get out."

Conspiracy ranks at or near the top for many fans of the ID series. What do you think makes this book so highly rated among readers? Does it rank in your Top Five from those you've read? Why or Why Not?

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11245 comments Mod
There are several Momentous Moments in CID. Share your favorite scenes & the reason these Moments are special to you.

One of my favorite moments, as I am sure it is for so many other readers, is the Snowman scene. In this scene, she is in the moment with Roarke, not thinking about murder or anything else; she's laughing, giggling, which she very rarely does. They are playful and just having fun like children. Yes, she's competitive about it; has to build her own snowman and it has to be bad ass enough to beat Roarke's snowman (woman), but I just loved that she allowed herself to play with wild abandon, to allow him to give them both this sweet memory.

It was so difficult and upsetting to me the first time I read it. Now that I've re-read and re-listened to it, more than once, I would say that it is one of my most highly rated of the series because it shows what her badge really means to her; it also shows how much she means to everyone on her team, to Roarke, to Mira, to her friends, even to Summerset. She isn't alone anymore; she has a huge "family" now that will always have her back.

I've read this book three times and cried every time! It's not only in my top five, it's in the #1 slot.

Eve had her identity stripped away in this story, all that she had created on her own. That moment when she had to hand in her badge just slayed me. Watching all her "family" rally around her, including Summerset (in his own way) was uplifting.

It's emotional and serves up everything I find wonderful about the series.

I have so many from this book but as I said above, the biggest moment for me was when Whitney took Eve's badge. Her trip from his office back to her team was so heartbreaking and truly in character.

“They made me nothing again.”

That statement said it all.

Couldn't agree more.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1131 comments While this book isn't in my #1 slot (please don't throw anything at me :0), it is one of the best in the series precisely because it is emotional and poignant, and shows just how human Eve and her 'family' are.

Phrynne | 373 comments I agree with Jonetta about the best scene and would add on to that the section straight after when Roarke is caring for her at home. What a man:)

Phrynne, that was my runner up!
