GeneralTHC I think I may have finally settled on which "mega-series" to read: Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series. There are currently 21 books in it and another one due out later this year.

Anyway, the first book is Postmortem (Kay Scarpetta, #1) by Patricia Cornwell and I plan on reading it pretty soon. I'd love to have someone join me for it. It is my understanding that this is essentially a modern classic of the crime fiction genre. I think it will be interesting to see how the forensic science aspect of it evolves from when the first book was written in 1990 to the current time.

Angie | 623 comments Its a good book Chuck, I loved reading through most of Patricia Cornell s books. Its amazing just how much things do change and one big one that isn't medical changes is the smoking of cigarettes in the workplace.

message 3: by GeneralTHC (new) - added it

GeneralTHC That ain't no doubt. I remember my mom told me once that in church even there used to be smoke breaks, lol!

Sam Arnold (samharnold) This is a brilliant series the only ones I haven't read are the last five or so. Have just started reading them again. I look forward to experiencing them all as you read them.

I'll probably need a push in that direction in a form of a buddy read, otherwise I have so many books that I want to consume asap lol but not managable!

message 7: by GeneralTHC (new) - added it

GeneralTHC Yeah, Natasa, we should read it! I probably won't be able to get to it now until around the first, but I'd love for you to join me on it.

I've heard the ones in the middle aren't as good as the others. That's not to say they're not good, but just that the first ones and these last ones are excellent. I guess I'll find out soon!

Cool :) looking forward to it :)
Haven't read crime novels for quite some time, I used to devour them a long time ago.
And I like the forensics aspect, haven't had that in a book let's say, I always think of CSI when I hear about forensics lol

I have been really bad about that this month, but it's a total anomaly. I'm sure I'll be finishing up a lot of books next month. May even surpass the
20-book month I had in April.

I don't think I will be able to read several books at the same time, especially if one of them really grabs my attention. There used to be a time when I read just like some of you guys, 3-5 books at the same time, even in the same day, but I don't do that anymore.
I guess I like to enjoy the story totally and not break it...but I think I'll have to try maybe this month because I have so many read again.

I keep saying I'm not going to let it happen again but it always does. I think I have 17 listed in my currently reading folder, but it's significantly higher than that.

To be honest, I am really looking forward to this book / series, as I haven't read this type of books for a very long time (years and years)...

That's great. I don't know which page I'm on but if I round them up to 1000 and I'm at 15% then I suppose I'm at page 150 more or less :)

I came to the part where (view spoiler)

This really is an epic book and it has well deserved most positive reviews by my opinion.

And I find it really readable...when you start, you just don't want to stop! I'm loving it!

Excellent! Sounds like you're making good progress. I thought it was weird how all that stuff happens and the story is just now barely getting started, heh.

Oops just realized I should have posted this in the thread for Follet's book.

I might copy it there for other people who will follow.

Almost asked you a question about the book but I'll move to the other thread. Have you started this Scarpetta series?

If it's really good I'm willing to read the whole series with you. I love series. Believe it or not I kept on reading Anita Blake even though it got at some points really gibberish lager I. the series, less action that used to be great with awesome monsters and more blah blah moaning complaining about not being able to love anyone but in each new book she started having sex with at least 2-3 new characters wtf? oh well, sex usually gets sold good...just find amazing that she started having group / people on piles sex after described in the first book she doesn't want to be with nobody (I think maybe even waiting till marriage but might be wrong or she had some huge disappointment with one boyfriend)...who know's, just wanted to say i can see why some people found that exeggerated sex kind of fell from the sky and never kept ending in some books...from really good uf it turned into pnr...

But when you read about the same characters in more than 15 books, I kind of feel bad letting them go. And I know some are a bit better again. But I loved the most something like the first maximum 10 books and I said too many probably. And if you keep the too big amount of sex and her monologues, the books are actually good. She should have made them shorter...some are way too long and with this extra bad stuff inside that is so repetitive no wonder a lot of people started hating her.

Am I the only one who read/s LK Hamilton here? At some point I'll probably read the next in line waiting for me.

I found these books before my era of being an active member of Goodreads, then I had only books that I would find on internet which were much less choice then now (that was maybe 3 years ago...audio books especially almost impossible to find).

I'm so happy now to have friends who can recommend me stuff, happy to have discovered authors and a lot of other thing.

Yep. I'm only about 100 pages in, but I'm going to see how far I can get today reading along with the audiobook.

Chuck, are you reading this book?

I'm 50% approximately done, had some finger issues and internet not woorking, so I wasn't online as much as I should/would/could have :)

I'm totally loving this book and I didn't check when it was written but the technology wasn't as developed yet as when you watch CSI, this was written earlier, I love the story and it never gets boring.

message 33: by GeneralTHC (new) - added it

GeneralTHC Yeah, you're a bit ahead of me on this one.
I am going to finish I AM PILGRIM today and then tomorrow I will probably try to finish this one. So, I should be posting on this one tomorrow as I try to read it through.

I haven't been able to finish it yet. I'm nearing the end now. I think it's absolutely awesome, though! It's probably my book of the year for 2014 I bet. It's definitely in the first place.

I'm gonna mark the 'I am pilgrim', thx!

Chuck, i finished Postmortem today :)

I find it was an interesting read, I would have loved more action but still...I was never bored :)

I'm curious to find out what you think about the book.

This was no 5 star book for me, I'll give it 4 *...if you wish, I'm game for the second part, whenever you feel like it. I hope and I believe that the next books should be better?
