Contest #1 (Super Short Stories)
I call this weird and slightly immature story "Cat Hair Scare". Pardon the oddness, please.
It is 187 words.
Zoe was in a predicament.
It wasn't so bad, some might say, but she had an extreme phobia of cat hair.
And there was a little tiny piece right on her shoulder.
She looked back and forth, searching for signs of any people nearby. The only thing as far as she could tell was a few broken bottles here and there, and spilled water beyond them.
So, logically as you do when you are afraid and not in public, Zoe screamed.
Her voice was so powerful that across the globe, and opera singer covered her ears. The broken bottles shattered into even more pieces, ricocheting in all directions, including Zoe's shoulder.
The piece of glass was like a tiny ninja star and started to fight the cat hair. Zoe held her breath, looking out of the corner of her eye. It was enough to see the hair whip the glass and kill it.
Zoe shook and darted her eyes away. It didn't work as well as she thought it would- there was a large gray cat lapping up the spilled water.
Their eyes met and Zoe sneezed.

Contest #1 (Super Short Stories)Sorry if this is a little gross/creepy/scary.
I really tried, okay? It is so much harder than I thought to write a story with 100-300 words.
It is 211 words.
The Gum-Ball Machine
The little boy standing in front of the gum-ball machine smiled as he took a shiny quarter out of his pocket. He turned it over in his hand, held it close to his eye as he examined it; shiny, perfectly round. In seconds, he would be trading his new quarter for a wonderful gum-ball. He hoped fir a red one, his favorite.
He placed the coin in the slot and turned the handle. Once. Twice. The third time, he brought the handle back to its original position, this time, with the slot empty. He heard the machine working, eating up his coin and getting ready to spit on out a shiny, candy ball of gum.
Bending down, he lifted the hatch that would reveal his prize…
A tiny white candy was what he got. Some red juice stuck to it. It was unlike any candy he had ever seen before.
The boy picked it up and looked close, only to jump back, a tiny scream escaping his lips as he realized what it actually was that he exchanged his shiny coin for. An adult human tooth fell from the little boy’s hands onto the cold hard floor. The boy cried for his momma as he ran from his prize.
Contest #1 (Super Short Stories)
This is a story about a small secret.
It is 296 words long.
TOLD
"Promise not to tell?"
"Of course I won't."
"And what if you do?"
"I won't."
"Okay."
"Issac was crying yesterday."
"I know."
"You know why?"
"No..?"
"I pushed him down the stairs."
"But the teachers said it was because he was lonely."
"Nobody wanted to be friends with a boy who was pushed down the stairs by a girl."
"That's the secret?"
"Were you hoping for more?"
"Perhaps."
"Don't tell, okay?"
"Lips zipped."
The two friends parted ways, one going home feeling satisfied, the other not sure if she was capable of keeping a secret.
The next day, the two arrived at school again. One was fighting the urge to tell a secret. The other was carefully watching her.
The one with the secret ended up, at the end of the day, in a bathroom stall next to another girl. They were all alone in the public restroom.
And suddenly, the secret slipped past her lips, and the other knew.
The girl understood a promise had been broken, but she thought: only one other person knows. What's the harm?
Sadly, there was harm. Because the other person in the bathroom stall was one of the biggest gossipers in the school.
The gossiper told, told many people, including Emily, including Sasha, and ,of course, Marie. Everyone knew Marie was a teacher's pet. Marie was a goody-two-shoes.
And one day, Marie told a teacher.
That teacher was Isaac’s aunt, and that teacher was angry.
That teacher tracked down the girl who pushed Isaac down the stairs, and suddenly, that student had a week ground from her parents, a suspension, and a harsh scolding from the principal.
All because someone had told.
And yet, things are told all the time.
Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worst.
