Riffle and freeEbooksdaily are two other sites that send emails of free or discounted books. I get one from riffle weekly and the other daily.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I have realized I become way to distracted with ebooks! XD Suddenly everything in the world interests me!

Also might I say, I just woke up because I heard a knock on my door (I'm an extremely light sleeper), so when I answered it there was this guy who introduced himself as my new neighbor. I kept wondering why he was looking at me funny. Turns out, I still have my panda sleeping mask on my forehead. XD

Oooh has anyone ever seen the movie or read the book Battle Royale? Watching it now. It's like a cross between the Hunger Games and The Testing. Pretty good. Should have read the book first maybe but oh well.

message 13: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (booktasticnerd87) | 4512 comments Mod
I have not I must admit.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I have heard that it's good. But I have no watched it myself...

message 15: by Megan (new)

Megan (ReadingRover) | 1232 comments Mod
It was pretty good. Literally a mash up of the hunger game and the testing. Lol they all had to carry their bags with them and each got a weapon! Nice twist to it in the end too. I'd been wanting to read the book and happened to see that the movie was on so I DVR'd it and watched it last night. Glad I did. Book is probably even better. Lol it was almost like reading a book since it was in Japanese so I had to read all the subtitles! Lol

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

XD I do that too. But I watch every movie with subtitles.

message 17: by Megan (new)

Megan (ReadingRover) | 1232 comments Mod
Why do you watch every movie with subtitles?!?

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I like having the tv on low... it's like I'm being sneaky... so I put subtitles on so I don't miss anything... Now that I'm saying this, it kinda sounds weird...

message 19: by Megan (new)

Megan (ReadingRover) | 1232 comments Mod
Lol it is a little weird but we all have our quirks. Mine is always loud. Lol and when I'm in my car and I'm listening to audiobooks I listen to them sooo loud!!! My friends always say that when I pull up it sounds like people are yelling!!! I have another friend who does the same thing when she listens to them.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't put audiobooks in the car... But I blast the hell out of showtunes in my car. I'll be singing my head off along. XD

message 21: by Inky (new)

Inky I enjoy having the subtitles on too. I get amused at seeing how they messed up the subtitles. Lol.

Completely random but I'm having a little dilemma. My hair is naturally thick, curly, wavy. Basically it's like a young Shirley Temple's curls only tighter. It was down to my waist but I decided in March of this year (after SO much thinking) that I wanted it shorter (for now) since I figured out how to work with my curls (basically you just let the beast do what it wants to do. Don't try to tame the beast or it will rebel viciously). Now I'm kinda thinking I want to try maybe a pixie cut but I'm not sure how my curls will react with that. I'm a little on the heavier side and I'm afraid that the shorter cut will make me look bigger than I actually am. Any advice on what I should do? Again I know this is random but I needed to ask people who won't flip out on cutting my curls. Lol.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I always have short hair. Of course my hair is wavy and frizzy. I would say just cut it and if you don't like it, it'll grow back. Lol. But I think it should be fine.

message 23: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne | 727 comments Mod
I think it depends on how short you go. My sister in law, when we were younger had curly that looked almost like it was out control, and she keeps it super short or down to her shoulders and it looks great not frizzy and huge like it did when we were teens and it was longer.

message 24: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (booktasticnerd87) | 4512 comments Mod
My hair is always trying to do it's own thing. I have thick hair and it was long until about two weeks ago. Plus I also dyed it recently. I will tell you the same thing that I am always told.

Will YOU like it?

It isn't about what everyone else things it's about what you think. And like Leela said if you cut it and don't like it, it will grow back.

message 25: by Inky (new)

Inky Well I've been able to tame the frizziness because in all seriousness I don't brush my hair. I wash it once a week and I'll brush it with my fingers when I'm using the conditioner. After that I just let it go because brushing out the curls is what makes it frizzy and poofy. I'm just nervous about it. It took me so long to come to the decision to cut it short to begin with.

So I'm sick. With a cold. (Which I'm silently cursing Andrea for. XD <3) was a work last night and around 4am I had a fever. Instead of coming home, I powered through the last almost 3 hours. Came home at 7am-ish. Took meds and didn't wake up til 5pm. Stayed awake long enough to have some soup then passed out again until 9pm. I swear my whole day went to sleeping!!! Now I'm awake. I'm waiting for my meds to kick in and knock me out again. So I picked out the 4 books I am hoping to read in September. Leaving room for the BOTM and the read-a-thon books. And now I'm bored. Meanwhile my husband keeps texting me about how my new diet must have gotten me sick. -rolls eyes- I seriously doubt that. He's just saying that because I'm trying to go vegan and he's not 100% happy about it. XD Anyways, that wasnt' exactly a vent. I'm just bored. How is everyone else doing today! Tonight...?

Wait Wait.... Why are you silently cursing me for it? How is this my fault? I didn't do it.

I spent the weekend in North Carolina with family because we have a grandmother that just went into hospice care. So we took the boys up to see their great grandmother before she passed.

Has anyone ever got the chance to put a book in the goodreads database? I just had to do that because the book I was trying to add was not added to goodreads. I was confused and it took me a while to get it up there. I'm starting to think no one else reads this type of book! XD Which now makes me feel like a dork.

I didn't even know you could do that. I have noticed some older books aren't always listed unless super popular so don't feel like a dork! =)

Which book was it that you had to add into the goodreads database?

Asking out of curiosity.

And I never even knew you could add to the database. That's actually kind of cool if you think about it.

VENT:

I am about to kill my husband and my sister in law and her husband. I'm so angry and stressed out.

Everything was wonderful for a while, my old roommate moved out, my sister in law and her husband came in, they're expecting a baby, we adopted a new cat, I went vegan and was about to go to school. Everything was darn near perfect. Well my sister in law's husband lost his mom a few weeks ago in a freak accident. He took it pretty hard, which is why I'm trying hard not to flip and instead trying to reason with them. My sister in law asked me and my husband last night if we would be ok if they moved out next month. Cause in their culture (Hmong) she can't give birth and have the baby in her brother's house(She's not due until December), she has to go live with her husband's family even though she doesn't want to. My husband didn't think and said yes automatically. I said no. And he tried to talk over me and tell her it would be ok and he would miss her. And once again, I said no. I told her if they moved so suddenly like that then we would be kinda screwed over because since our last roommate moved out, they took over those bills and with me not working anymore because I have decided to get into nursing school, we can't really afford to pay all the bills they would be leaving behind. I asked her to stay until November cause would lease is up December 1st. She said ok and everything was settled. Well this morning my husband texts me and tells me "Hey we need to talk. My brother in law is mad that we aren't letting him move until November." I once again remind my husband that they have to stay until then or else we are screwed. We bought them their car, we have bought the food, we have paid for their baby's stuff. All I'm asking is that they don't screw us over by moving out before our lease is up because then we won't have the money to pay for it. My husband is now ignoring my messages.

Am I in the wrong here? I don't think I am. Their culture makes it hard to work with... I'm starting to feel stressed out and if they do move out, I'll have to put school on hold again. I'm really upset and I want to strangle my husband for being so thickheaded....

message 39: by Megan (new)

Megan (ReadingRover) | 1232 comments Mod
I don't think you are. I feel like you've rationally explained yourself to them several times. You're husband doesn't seem to understand what being a united front means. I feel like when it comes to his family he always does what is easiest rather than what is right or what needs to be done because he wants to please them. Maybe you can talk to him and see if you can come to an agreement where they still pay the bills even though they move out of its the superstition that they're worried about and since you've helped them financially so much. Hmmm...idk.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

He does do that, Megan! He's a great husband but if he has to make a choice between his family and me, he never choose my side. And it makes me so mad! I tried talking to him when he got home and he said its cause I'm not Hmong I can't understand. And I told him I am trying to understand but they can't just leave us and to hell if we get screwed over! We argued for a bit and he said he'd talk to them about staying until November and stuff. But I'm upset that I even had to argue with him about this. I'm so frustrated with this customs that I'm not used to but they try to force on me. I feel like I'm in a constant battle between his family for him. And I've tried to be the better person and just adapt, I've been let go of some stuff that I was raised to believe for him and it's never enough. My mother in law straight up told him yesterday shed understand if he'd left me for a Hmong woman cause she doesn't like that I'm Mexican.

Aww I'm sorry. It sound like you're making a lot of sacrifices and he's not seeing that. I'm sure he thinks he's also making sacrifices too based on his family's strict cultural demands. From what I know of the culture which isn't much is that it's very old fashioned and very set in its ways. Unfortunately I don't think that's going to be an easy thing for you to contend with. You're best bet is to keep doing what you're doing and try to compromise and get you're husband to see your point of view and that you've been making sacrifices in the relationship as much as he feels he has and that you guys should be a team. I'm sorry about your mother in law. That's really mean especially after you've been there for her through everything.

If it were me Leela, I would suggest moving from his family to somewhere else. It sounds like he needs to be away from them for him to grow to depend on just you.

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you, Megan. You'd think she's be a little more nicer to me. But she really can't stand me. If his family wasn't so constantly coming over, my husband and I never fight really. All of our arguments revolve around his family. And I've told him it's frustrating that his family causes this much hardship. My family never does this. They have been so supportive and have helped us and always say if we need anything they'll help however they could.

I have suggest on moving to a different city, Andrea. At first he fought me and said why we had to move from his family. I told him I would be moving just as far from my own. He finally agreed to move to a city 2 hours away after we finish school. Which I hope his family doesn't convince him to back out of. Though I think he's serious about moving away.

Maybe you could find another school. It sounds like with his decisions are not his but his family's.

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes exactly, Andrea. They aren't his own. But he wouldn't agree to a different school. The nursing school I'm hoping to get into is an hour drive away and he refused to move out so the commute would be easier on us. He rather move out after we graduate and from there he refuses to budge. :(

Just make sure his family doesn't change his mind. It seems like he might be a bit fickle.

Hello lovelies!

I want you guys to know that right now I am taking a small leave of absence. I will be gone for a few days. My family has just lost the matriarch of the family. She passed away a few moments ago. She was my husband's grandmother. While she and I started with a rough relationship we grew to love each other as the granddaughter she never got to have.

She was a wonderful woman and would have been 83 on Halloween this year. The coming holidays will not be the same without her.

I do ask for prayers for my family at this time as we all gather to mourn the loss of this wonderful woman that we all loved. Glad that she was able to see her great-grandsons (my boys) one last time before she parted this world to be with her husband and son. It's been a long and difficult road getting to this last point.

Remember to hug those around you because they might not be here tomorrow.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Pertaining to the group:

Megan and Leela will be my go to right now as they have my number to text if anything gets to hectic or if I need to ask them questions. Please know that I will be back in a few short days and that if I come on for short periods of time it will be to keep my mind busy in the days to come.

Please if you have any questions contact any of the admins. Everyone will do their best to answer any questions you have in a timely manner.
