Ancient & Medieval Historical Fiction discussion

Recently I read (on line) an article about which authors write the most interesting realistic medieval or fantasy battle scenes…unfortunately I lost the reference. So my question is which authors do you think write battle scenes well. BTW, Bernard Cornwell is already on my list.

thanks - I am truly looking for descriptions of medieval (11th and 12th C) battles

I have just finished Outlaw #1 by Angus Donald and I have really enjoyed his action scenes.

While it isn't medieval, R.W. Peake does an excellent job with Roman era battle scenes in his "Marching With Caesar" series.

Conn Iggulden is another author who does a pretty good job with battle sequences. I'm currently reading #3 in his Wars of the Roses series

Hi Bob, usually members have to ask a Mod before posting a new thread in folders other than the 'looking for a book about' folder.
One of the reasons, is to avoid double ups.

I think from memory it didn't have to be historical fiction, but mostly was.

thanks,,,although I did review this and it refers to fight scenes - sword fights among individuals and small groups - I intended to refer to battle scenes between armies

Nope, it is for fight scenes of all kinds. Battle scenes included.

In fact in the very first post I made to kick the thread off, I asked the question "What is your most memorable fight scene or battle?"

Battle of Leuktra in The End of Sparta. Best I've ever read of hoplite warfare.
