August Discussion: "Asking for It"
date
newest »

I want to start off our discussion of Kate Harding’s “Asking for It” by offering a safe space for people share their stories.
I want us to wonder about how experiences of sexual assault could be addressed differently if we didn’t live in a culture that excused and rarely punished rape and sexual assault.
What would it have meant for you to deal with this within a culture without pervasive myths about rape? To be believed for what you say, and not having to deal with the assumption you must have "asked for it"?
(For anyone who would feel more comfortable sharing their thoughts and experiences anonymously, you can send us an anon ask on our tumblr. lets-read-about-feminism.tumblr.com/ask )

Today's discussion will be formatted a little differently than we've done in the past, but everyone is always welcome to post their own thoughts and questions on the book!
As this book is about rape culture, please be conscious of the fact that for many people this is a triggering topic.
