Shaunesay Welcome to our week long read-a-thon. That's right, at Hooked on Books we've decided that there aren't enough hours in a day, or days in a week, so our week long read-a-thons run for 8 days! Each participant reads from 12:01am on Saturday to 11:59pm on the following Saturday in their local time zone.

To sign up simply start yourself a post to track what you've read during the read-a-thon. Edit your post throughout the read-a-thon to let everyone know which books you've read & your total number of pages. Feel free to copy my post as a template

I am from Kansas too (although a little bit closer to OK) and I totally felt that earthquake! I was still sleeping and it was not the best way to be woken up. Just saying. Probably the most intense one I have ever felt.

Between Shades of Grey is one of my favorites. I forced my younger sister to read it and was sorely disappointed when she said she 'liked' it. When I asked more questions she just shrugged. :/ I hope you enjoy it!

I've been getting less reading done than I would like. I'm even counting my reading for school work. But, I've been spending hours over the past few days grading and leaving comments on undergraduate work. Fun! *sarcasm*

Shaunesay Just finished The Weight of Blood by Laura McHugh , a mystery set in the Ozarks, we used to go to the lake there every summer, so I was interested for that reason, though there wasn't much really about the Ozark area per se. It was a good mystery though.

Shaunesay I'm still discovering things I can do as a mod, so I found the group challenges page, and I created one to start Oct. 1 for the month for "scary" books. They don't have to be actually scary, just some thin Halloween connection, really thin... part of the fine might be seeing how you can connect really off the wall things to Halloween!

Here's the link, but it won't let you join until Oct. 1 when it starts.
Are You Scared Yet?

Shaunesay I'm trying really hard to finish The King's Mistress by Emma Campion during this RAT! I've been reading it for months and I owe it to a friend! It's good, I've just been slow, but I only have about 65 pages left, I can do this!!

Anyone else making a push to finish something as we head into the last day on this one?

Ashley (JaffaCaffa) (jaffacaffa) | 166 comments I hope to finish both The Runaway King (The Ascendance Trilogy, #2) by Jennifer A. Nielsen and Girl Hearts Girl by Lucy Sutcliffe !

Still really enjoying the The Ascendance Trilogy. And Girl Hearts Girl by Lucy Sutcliffe was written by my best friend Lucy, who I've been penpals with since I was 8 years old. It's been cool to match up the stories in her book with ones she had written/e-mailed to me, as well as hearing more in depth about her thoughts/struggles.

message 43: by Shaunesay (new)

Shaunesay That's neat Ashley, and it sounds like a great read, probably very emotional! Looks like it's getting good ratings too, I hope it does fantastic for her!

I did finish up The King's Mistress this morning, so I feel super accomplished! I've been trying to get through that one since May! It was a great book, so my slowness is not a reflection of what it's like!

This afternoon I hope we'll get to the local museum where they are having a treasures of Rome exhibit!

Lee (strickerke) | 36 comments I'm hoping to finish Orange is the New Black. I've watched the Netflix original, but was always struck by how outlandish some of the story elements seemed. But it was "based on a book of a woman's real experiences" and I think that lead a lot of people to assume the stories are even close to factual. The show deviates significantly from the book.

Ashley (JaffaCaffa) (jaffacaffa) | 166 comments Congrats Shaunesay! Feels good when you finish a book that was slow-going, even if it was an enjoyable read.

Have fun at the museum, that sounds so interesting. :)

Shaunesay Oh wow, I didn't know Orange is the New Black was based on book, I've never watched it actually, though I do like some of the people in it.

We didn't make it to the museum today, but we're going to try harder tomorrow! We're kinda slow pokes on the weekend around here! lol!

Ashley (JaffaCaffa) (jaffacaffa) | 166 comments Woop woop I did it! Well technically it was 2 mins past midnight but I managed complete my goal and finish both of the books I set out to. :D

Gotta love ending a read-a-thon on a high note. I really enjoyed most of my books this week, hope everyone did as well!

I had a successful read-a-thon as well. I don't normally finish three books in a week!
