Welcome to you, if you've arrived here!
As a crime-writer who is also an ex-copA.B. PattersonHarry's World, I was pondering how many others like me are out there, and what their work is like, so I started this group. More postings to follow on what I know to date...

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 5 comments Hello, I am Paula and I am not a cop but I am a fan of books about cops. Especially like the ones written by cops or ex-cops and yes I can tell the difference.

I do read books for review. I post on GoodReads, Amazon, B&N, Twitter and Facebook.

I also enjoy the programs on the Investigation Discovery Channel that are by ex-cops and the cases they solved. Lt Joe Kenda is my favorite.

And a huge welcome, Paula, our first member (aside from myself)! Look forward to some great discussions.

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 5 comments Thank you Andrew. I'm looking forward to some great recommendations and discussions.

Where were you a cop if you don't mind me asking?

Hi Paula,
Over in Western Australia, although I live in Sydney now.
I did most of my detective time in child abuse and then vice, so seen a lot of the worst, and this certainly influences my writing. After the cops and moving to Sydney, I've spent a lot of years investigating government corruption, so that also influences my fiction.
Cheers, Andrew

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 5 comments Hi Andrew,

Wow, I guess you did see some of the worst. Government corruption that can always provide good material for an author.

My stepson is a detective in Maryland, USA. I've heard some of his stories when he was a patrol officer. Baltimore is a high crime area.

My son is trying to get into the police force here in Massachusetts. Working on getting back in shape and studying.
It scares me a bit to be honest. But I support his decision.

Enjoy,
Paula

Dawn (mcdawn73) | 1 comments Hi Andrew,

I think this will be a nice group. I'm not a LEO, just the wife of one. I love reading all sorts of books and when I read most that have any police stuff in them I find that many are not that accurate compared to stories I hear from my husband. And how long I know he works on cases. He's been a detective for 10 years at his current department. I look forward to hearing about some books written by officers.

Hi Paula,
I wish your son well in getting in to the force to follow what he wants to do. Whilst I wouldn't want to go back into it now (but I am in my 50s!) I look back with a lot of great memories. Despite the bad eggs that tarnish a police force's name, it remains an honourable and worthwhile profession. I have a lot of respect for the bulk of street level cops, both uniform and detective. My views of senior police tends to be somewhat less complimentary! Perhaps an item for further discussion in the group as we go on.
Cheers, Andrew

Hi Dawn,
And welcome to our fledgling group! I think we are in for some great discussion, and lots of discovery of new authors. Even in setting it up over the last few days, I've been introduced to several new ex-cop authors already.
Cheers, Andrew

Hi All,
I am back! My sincere apologies for a few weeks of silence - life events intervened for a while. Plus been having issues with my Goodreads account - stuff disappearing - still unrelieved, although they tell me they are working to sort out the bug in their systems. Seems I am not the only one!
Anyhow, do we have any more names for cops writing crime to add to our list?
Cheers,
Andrew

And, if we have finalised our list, at least for now, does anyone feel like a group read???
