If it had been up to you, would you have chosen a different cast to play the characters?

Which characters would you change? Which actor would you have play them?

new_user Bella and Edward, LOL. The rest are well done, imo, but hair and makeup has got to go. I think they'll do better with that in the second movie.

For Bella, Juno Temple or Evan Rachel Wood. For Edward, there are a lot of good young actors. They're less shallow with the boys, LOL.

message 3: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I couldn't stand the makeup for the first movie either, but I heard it was due to the low budget. I thought the casting was pretty well done, especially for Bella's father and Alice's role. Jasper looks constipated throughout Twilight and even in the trailer of New Moon.

Bella and Edward I would also change. I think Kristen is too twitchy as Bella although she does look like the Bella I had imagined. I also don't like her during interviews. She's said rude things about fans and comes off as arrogant sometimes. RP grew on me as Edward. He's certainly not the Edward I pictured though and sometimes he looks stupid when he makes faces.

message 4: by new_user (new)

new_user IMO, he overacts, and she doesn't even bother. I thought the supporting actors knew their business better. They all captured the characters well. Jasper is a little overdone, I suppose, LOL.

Very true. That part with the fan when she walks in...what was that? LOL! I think you're right about Kristen- she doesn't bother. lol.

message 6: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL. Exactly. That scene is a prime example.

I like most of the actors...I would prefer a different actor play Edward...and I absolutely detest Kristen Stewart as Bella! I think she is a terrible actress. Blah! LOL
I like the actor that plays Carlisle! I think he suites the part. :)

Hmmm...I liked the scene when she is getting her food at lunch, and she tells him her "theories"...For the most part though...they could have done better.

message 9: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL. They were so awkward. Somebody was really greedy if they left that footage in the movie instead of re-shooting it. Any director worth her salt would have picked up on that lack of naturalness/chemistry.

I agree though, the actor who played Carlisle did a pretty good job!

message 10: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 452 comments The only two that I don't like are Jasper and Edward. To me the Jasper that they cast does not look like somebody who has led an army. Edward was an impossible character to cast and Rob has somewhat grown on me but still not my perfect Edward.
I don't really care for Kristen but she does look like the Bella I had pictured.

message 15: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 654 comments I just read today that Rachelle LeFevre was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in the role of Victoria for Eclipse. The studio says that there was a 10-day overlap in scheduling between the movie she is working on now and the Eclipse schedule and they simply can't wait. Rachelle says that she lived up to her contractual obligations for Eclipse and was committed to the character and had every reason to believe she was coming back. Sounds like a big mess to me.

Does anyone have any strong feelings about it one way or the other? Although I have nothing against Bryce Dallas Howard, I'm a little annoyed myself. I just hate recasts mid-stream in a movie series like this, and for only a 10-day overlap it seems like overkill to replace her.

message 16: by new_user (last edited Jul 30, 2009 11:05PM) (new)

new_user Eh, I think she played her role well, but in the end we only saw her briefly so she's easily replaced. IMO, she agreed to another commitment in Europe, not just another commitment, and she informed them too late to reschedule shooting so they may have had good cause to choose another actress. Victoria has a significant role in #2, so even if it's just ten days, those are ten important days. I mean, the whole filming schedule is what, two months, tops?

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I think the Twilight movie was perfectly cast. I wouldn't change any of the actors. Even before the movie came out, I thought Robert would be perfect for the role of Edward. He has the ability to look both dangerous and beautiful at the same time, which is something I think Stephenie Meyer has mentioned as well. Kristen looks a lot like how I'd imagine Bella to look. She's beautiful in a way that she's not trying to be. At first, I thought she was a little too uptight to play a girl who's passionately in love, but after seeing the movie, I can't really imagine another actress playing her.

I'm not really taking sides, because I realize that there is probably some truth in what is being said by both Rachelle and Summit. Still I'm not so sure that I would consider her to be easily replaced. Even though Victoria is a secondary character, I think that Rachelle became the face of that character, and she did have a reasonably significant role in Twilight as well as appearing in the upcoming New Moon. In all honesty she was probably in just as many if not more scenes than Taylor Lautner was as Jacob in Twilight, and when the question of a possible recast for him came up, it was near pandemonium. Like I mentioned before, I just hate recasts, because a new actor is always going to interpret the character differently. But I'll keep an open mind. Maybe Bryce will surprise me and make a even better Victoria than Rachelle.

Nice to know that I'm not the only one who liked the Twilight cast just the way they are. Since all of them were relative unknowns, I wasn't sure if I would like them or not. After seeing the movie though, all my doubts were put to rest. I can't think of a single character I would want to recast.

I guess she was trying too hard to look as confused as Bella feels around Edward, to the effect that she mastered a constant gloomy look on her face. She's trying to look pre-occupied in the movie, the way Bella is in the book. Sadly, I guess she didn't realize that her expressions looked anything but pre-occupied.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

The only real qualm I had with the first movie was how quickly Edward and Bella fall in love. I know it's a movie and it can't be as drawn out as the book, but I would have liked to see it develop more gradually. I don't want to jinks it, but based on what we've seen of New Moon, Edward and Bella's relationship looks a lot more intimate. Just in the first trailer, the way they look at each other has a lot more passion and Bella even says "I love you," something that was missing from the first movie. I'll reserve my final judgement for when I actually see it, but so far it looks better than the first one.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 654 comments I tend to not to put much stock in celebrity gossip. Rob and Kristin have great onscreen chemistry, and I read a couple of interviews with Rob where he admitted to having a bit of a crush on Kristin. Maybe that's part of what has fueled all the rumors that they're "together," but both they and their co-stars have denied it many times over. From what I've heard, Kristin has a serious long-time boyfriend that she's been with for something like three years. Whether Rob and Kristin are an item in real life is really anybody's guess, but I'm not going to believe it until one of them fesses up or it come from a truly reliable source.:-)

I agree, you can't put your faith in what the magazines say. Twilight is a hot commodity in Hollywood right now, so the writers know they'll make money by writing stories about the cast members.

Yeah...I didn't really feel the chemistry in Twilight, but I think that might be because I thought that the movie was a let down...When I am grumpy I don't tend to notice the "good" parts. LOL

New Moon does look a lot better, and I think that their chemistry will be better in it too! :)

I thought the special effects were awful! What a disappointment! I'd heard they were bad, though, so I was prepared for it. At first, I hated the guy who played Edward, but by the end of the movie he sort of grew on me. My mother-in-law has never read any of the books and she LOVED the movie. (Guess what she's getting for Christmas)
On a side note, Jasper was FUGLY! What was up with his hair?! It was wierd, and he looked like an albino!

message 32: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 778 comments I hated how Jasper looked permanently frightened or freaked out. It was annoying to look at him.And I agree, what was up with his hair? Overall, the movie was better than I thought. I knew the graphics weren't going to be all that great b/c of their budget. But it wasn't as cheesy as I thought it was going to be.

message 33: by Anne (new)

Anne Yes! Permanently frightened describes it perfectly! Thank you! His hair was too poofy at the bottom or something. Speaking of poofy hair, I'm not crazy about that kid who plays Edward's hair, either. It's like he has a nest on the top of his head! I'm sure I'll be crucified by all the Team Edward girls for that comment.
The low budget was a killer. I was prepared for the worst (or so I thought), but nothing could prepare me for the cheesy "running in the woods" scene. I've seen the Sci-fi channel come up with stuff better than that! All it needed to complete the scene was for his legs to go around in circles like a cartoon character! Grrrr. The "cool" factor was killed further, because Bella looked like a baby possium (sp?) hanging off his back.

message 34: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 778 comments Opossum, maybe? And that's a funny thought. I like it.

message 35: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 778 comments I agree. Robert Pattinson was not what I had in mind when I thought of Edward. And I remember when Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire came out, I was disappointed when I saw who they had Cedric Diggory. Cedric was supposed to be the most handsome guy in school and when I saw Pattinson, I really didn't think he fit the part. I don't mind his acting but he looks like Dirk Squarejaw. I don't get the girls (and women) who are drooling over him and his "sex hair."

message 36: by Anne (new)

Anne Gross! He doesn't shower? Ewwwww! LOL! You two are killing me! Dirk Squarejaw? Tee hee *snort*!
I really don't get how he keeps popping up in these parts, like Cedric and Edward, where the guy is suposed to be sooo good looking?! His must have one heck of an agent! When I first saw him, I thought his face looked a little caved-in at certain angles. It's like there isn't enough room between his cheekbone and jaw-line. However, this could be an optical illusion caused by his giant nest of poofy hair. I can't believe anyone would think he has "sex hair". I'm old enough to know what a man with sex hair looks like, and it DOES NOT look like he got into his grandma's Aquanet and had a hairspray party!

message 37: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 778 comments Hahaha! A hairspray party! I'll have to have one of those sometime! You're too much. I think it was on thenest.com that there was all this massive hardcore crushing on him. There's a bookclub forum on there and I think they had one just for Twilight lovers. There have been another website I snooped on but I don't recall now. But mosey over there and see if you can find it. It's quite disturbing.

message 38: by Anne (new)

Anne Seroiusly?! I knew there was a Twilight roleplaying site (and to be honest, I was quite tempted to take a peek and see what it was all about!), but I will have to take a look at this one. I guess I should get used to disturbing boy-crushes. My daughter pointed to him on the cover of a magazine the other day...and said she was going to marry him. She's four! Grrrrr. I went ahead and bought her the magazine, but only because it was worth the cover price to see the look of horror on my husband's face when she told him the same thing! Heh Heh

message 39: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 778 comments Hahahaha! I'm sure that'll give comfort to her husband. Hopefully he'll wait a couple more years before he invests in the chastity belt.

message 40: by Anne (new)

Anne Very funny you two! Neither of you guys have kids yet...just wait. The thought of my little baby drooling over some puffy headed actor who apparently doesn't bathe! Actually, who am I to complain? I had a poster of Tom Cruise up in my bedroom when I was a girl! Good lord! Rob doesn't sound so bad anymore!

message 41: by new_user (last edited Aug 09, 2009 06:08PM) (new)

new_user LOL. Yeah, to be honest, he looks like a million white boys. I think it must be his jaw that gets him those parts. I did like his hair color in the movie though. I don't remember much about the style because the camera kept panning into their faces.

message 42: by Julianna (new)

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 654 comments Goodness! There certainly isn't any love for Rob here is there? LOL! I don't know where that whole lack of bathing thing came from, but a couple of his co-stars recently said it was just another ridiculous rumor, celebrity gossip run amok, I suppose. That's why I never listen all that stuff. You just never know what's true and what's not.

I can certainly understand Twilight fans who are disappointed that Rob isn't their perfect picture of Edward. He wasn't exactly what I had imagined while reading the books either, but when you have millions of fans imagining, no one is going to be truly happy with the casting. I decided to give him a chance, and personally was pleasantly surprised and thought that he was very capable in the role. I'm certainly no crusher, way too old for that nonsense, but I've also come to like Rob very much as a person. He seems very sweet, charming, talented, and funny, all qualities that are personal favorites of mine in a guy. Just my two cents worth though, so don't hate me for it. LOL!;-)

message 43: by new_user (last edited Aug 09, 2009 06:23PM) (new)

new_user LOl. I'm just teasin'. I don't have anything against the guy. I've only seen him in Twilight, and I couldn't tell you whether the problems I saw there were due to his acting or lax direction (I lean towards the latter). I do think he's a very good singer. I don't know anything about his character. But at any rate, I'm not judging people, just performances.

I agree that it's silly to gripe about the actor not fitting the character's physical description because the actor never will. He dyed his hair, wore contacts. There's nothing he can do about his bone structure.

message 44: by Anne (new)

Anne True. I don't think there is any actor out there who would make everyone happy. I thought he actually did a pretty good job acting in the movie. The special effects weren't the actors fault. His looks managed to grow on me by the time the credits rolled, so that is saying something.
I think our original point (before we got too silly) was that we couldn't understand where all the swooning women were coming from.
Like I said earlier, I realize that the Tom Cruise poster I had when Top Gun came out (ahem) pretty much snatches my soap box out from underneath me!

message 45: by new_user (new)

new_user Yeah, Anne, that's what I meant. There isn't any actor who will fit a character's precise description. I did think he overacted, but if the director hadn't been pushing things along that's something that could have easily been nipped in the bud.

message 46: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 778 comments I agree, Jo. There are definately quite a few actors that if they were ordinary jo schmos, would not have women seeing him in the grocery store going ga-ga for him. But such is the benefit of fame and money! And a good make-up artist and hairdresser!

I know Tom Cruise is worse than Rob! LOL! That's why I'm willing to give my daughter a pass for wanting to "marry" Rob! How could I ever look her in the eyes and make fun of her crush (not that I ever would anyway!) when I had a crush on a FREAK!

LOL Yeah, I def. didn't think that Rob was my idea of the perfect Edward. However, if I look pass the "looks", he wasn't that bad for the role. I mean they didn't have much money to work with so it was harder for them to find a popular actor, I think. However, I REALLY do hate his hair! My hubby said the same thing. He should cut it shorter! LOL We might like him more in New Moon, since they will have the finances to do the film justice...it'll be easier on the actors.
