Merlin ran down the hallway, torso bent down and arms stretched behind him.

He was completely unaware of his surroundings.

Melody was running late to Herbology class, she was rushing with her books piled up in her arms, running at a slow pace, se didn't want to draw too much attention to herself and possibly the teachers by sprinting. the hallways were almost bare of students except a few hanging around chatting. she was just turning the corner wen she ran into something, or more like someone. she let out a loud groan as she and the person toppled to the ground. once she had a grasp on what had just happened she took a peak at the person who had caused this accident and was surprised to find it was a fellow Hufflepuff, someone she had seen around the common room some times. she didn't know much about this kid, she only knew that he was a few grades under hers and was weird, she had heard the whispers around the common room about him. "i'm so sorry!" she blurted out, a little louder than she would have liked.

"Holy shit!" he jumped into a squatting stance, ready to attack, star wand raised. "Who do you think you are peasant?" he screeched in his 12y voice. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out a match box and opened it. He took out the decomposing remains of a betta fish. "Go John!" he threw the carcass at the older girl.

melody squealed as the dead fishes body made contact with her clothes. she hit it off with the back of her hand and shuffled back on the ground. what the hell was wrong with this kid?! she didn't want to admit it but she already hated him and she had just met him, she was usually a kind person, who stood in the background, ignored or hated by all but she was still kind and had never disliked anyone in her life. she stood up and brushed off her clothes, her blue eyes focused on the fishes body, she felt gross after touching it. "I..i uhm" she squeaked. she hated being so shy, somehow out of anger towards this kid she found her voice; "what the hell!"

The young boy crawled over to the taller woman, sniffing her clothes. She smelt friendly enough and so he stood back up.
"I'm sorry..." he apologised and walked over to pick up John and put his star wand away. "You startled me, that's all" he begun to explain.

she looked at the boy with wide eyes, was he seriously apologising, he threw a freaking fish oh her. who the hell does that, her clothes probably smelt now. she shook away these thoughts. this kid was being nice, he was apologising, she should at least give him a chance. she sighed sure he was a weirdo who decided to sniff her clothes, something that defiantly invaded her personal space but maybe she got it wrong, it just seemed like he was sniffing her who knew what was actually happening. "its okay" she said with a loud sigh.

Over joyed by her forgiveness he whispered in her ear "thankyou senpai" and put a bunch of glitter in her hand. "I have limited social skills and so I tend to come off as weird" he tried to explain his behaviour. Randomly he conjured a baked potato and held it out as an offering "you smelt like baked potatoes so I thought you'd like to eat one". He held his betta up to his cheek and gave it a quick snuggle.

"oh" she said, just loud enough for him to hear. explained the way he acted but what did he mean but senpai? She had never heard that phrase before. She looked down at his hands where he was handing her a backed potato. was that a compliment? telling her she smelt like a backed potato, personally she liked backed potatoes but being told she smelt like one... she wasn't sure."uhmm..... thanks" she awkwardly said as se took the potato off him, holding it in her hand as if it was diseased. "so uhmmm. what's with the fish?" melody asked

A feeling of gratitude overcame him, he was starting to appreciate this person's existence. "He is my pet fish John and my only friend. My dad killed it by accident so I slowed down the decomposition process with a spell... he's also single''.

"uhmm okay, ill keep him in mind" she said, cringing at her words, "so uhmmm nice to meet you john" she said quietly, why was he keeping a dead fish, why did he bother. it was dead it wasn't going to return. "so what's your name, not quite sure I caught it, I'm melody by the way melody griffin" she said proudly, it was nice to talk to someone, even if the someone was this strange boy who threw a dead fish at her. she hadn't had anyone but the teachers to talk to.

"Melody is a nice name" he complimented her "my name is Merlin Astrojor Honitor Dilin Iskore Adbus Hathar Stuvras Tosorin. My nickname is Mahdiahst, which is an abbreviation of all my names." He was really enjoying her company, he never talked with people like this before.

"okay... I think ill just call you merlin if that's alright with you?" she suggested, there was know way in the world she was going to remember it, wasn't it something like mahdimest? who knew. "so merlin uhm.. what are yours and johns interests also thankyou for the compliment"

He bobbed his head back and forth "Das fine!" he didn't really care what he got called. His mother often called him 'Madeline' so now he responded to that name as well. "We like to play in the woods behind my house... that's about it..." he poked his fingers together in awkwardness. How silly is it to only enjoy one thing?

she could sort of understand why he enjoyed it in the forest, she wasn't sure he had the same reasons as her for liking it but in her opinion it was because it was quiet, here wasn't anyone around. "why do u like the forests, what do you do while you're there" she hadn't known this guy for long, but she was becoming quite comfortable around him, somehow his weirdness made her feel better about herself, better in knowing there was someone who boosted her self esteem.

He was reluctant at first, but gave her a bit of trust in understanding him "My parents don't do anything with me and I have no friends, so I go there with John. We just eat random plants and stare into the distance, hoping to be taken away on a magical adventure." He hoped he didn't come off as weird.

((I am getting very hyper, sorry if that doesn't make much sense...)))

"you do know that the plants you eat could possibly poison you, they could make you sick!" she worried. "and im sorry for asking but if you don't mind me asking why don't your parents want anything to do with you?" she aside plainly.

"I know, I almost died once but they taste good so I keep eating them. Plus John says I should." he grinned. "They're always busy and they wanted a girl, that's why my mum calls me Madeline."

"please stop eating random plants and why don't they try for another child, im sure they wont mind another if they wanted a female or they could adopt, that way you would have a more... live and human person to play with" she said glancing at john.

John winked at the Melody. Merlin shrugged their shoulders "Mmkay, I will only eat animal carcassas from now on." he went with her advice "I'm not entirely sure, but you get used to being alone. I guess isolation in itself is my company." He made an ugly smile, showing his lack of teeth.

"that's deep," she stared at him with widened eyes. "and please, don't eat animal carcasses either, they're usually full of maggots, they aren't any better than random plants, if anything they may be worse in some ways. also im always here, I could be your friend" she suggested.

"Thx man" he laughed inside his brain "I didn't know chicken from Coles was that gross. I would eat Woolies food but I'm allergic to everything there."
He thought for a second "sure, I will let you be my friend but don't expect any favouritism cause John is my favourite friend. Soz."

"don't worry I wont take johns place, and uhm.. sorry I-I just though u mean ones you found in the forest... I didn't know you meant coles...." she said, awkwardly, it wasn't her fault she made the mistake. oh well...

"It's okay, you couldn't have known." he forgave her. Curious, he wanted to see if she had anything on right now "are you busy at all? I'm only new here and I don't know my way around."

suddenly she remembered why she was rushing in the first place, she was supposed to have a class on right now, a class that would be over in five minuets. "uhm... no I don't, I could show you around I guess, I've been at this school for a whole it takes a bit to get used to, with the moving stairs and all" she told him, smiling lightly.

He cocked his head "moving stairs?" he hadn't heard of any moving stairs. He missed the tour of the dorms and hadn't heard of the stairs. He hadn't even attended his classes yet and slept outside.

"you haven't seen them yet? they move every few minuets, makes it quite difficult to get to class sometimes, also people use them as a excuse to be late. they're not very helpful..." she told him, "also why do you sleep outside, the boys dorms in hufflepuff have plenty of beds u could sleep in?"

"The school should invest in stagnant stairs then, this place has the weirdest architecture!" he yelled "it's actually a good excuse."
"I don't know where the rooms are, I've tried asking people but my social skills... yeah..." Chicken noodles began to fall from his pockets.

" I can show you?" she asked. "do you know how to get into the hufflepuff common room?" it was confusing to some, it involved a musical password down in the basement by the kitchen, it wasn't hard to forget, or not even know...h

He nodded, prepared to follow. "I don't know where anything is around here." He remembered how he wandered off from the tour, trying to get John a girlfriend.

"ill show your around" she said, grinning as she motioned for him to follow her as he head off to the barrels that lead into the hufflepuff common-room.
