Only really sick men rape other men, which happens more often than women raping men (which happens usually when intoxication is involved, due to the mechanics of actual intercourse). It's not rape removal because Stephenie doesn't believe that men can be raped. She removed it because it hardly happens. You want a scary attack scene to be believable? Do the statistics research necessary to make it so.
Brett wrote: "Only really sick men rape other men, which happens more often than women raping men (which happens usually when intoxication is involved, due to the mechanics of actual intercourse). It's not rape ..."I'd have to disagree with you Brett, I think she could have made the rape scenes regardless of how frequently they happen in real life. I mean how "real or believable" can a book about sparkly vampires be? And saying she simply doesn't believe men can be raped does not mean that they are not or that they cannot be raped, it doesn't absolve her from the mistake she made by erasing these scenes from the book. It also doesn't excuse her from the responsibility of raising awareness about male rape to her audience. The fact of the matter is that she is in the wrong for excluding these somewhat crucial scenes from the book, and by doing so she is enforcing the stereotype that rape only happens to women and that men don't face sexual harassment/assault cases everyday. And let's not forget that by her erasing these scenes, she's inadvertently saying that the worst thing that can happen to a women is sexual assault/rape which is false. YES rape is bad, but it isn't the end all be all of women fears. She's simply leaning into the idea that the most important thing for a women is to protect her "sexual innocence", and honestly, blegh.
Also RAPE HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE ARE SOBER
I thought that was common knowledge, but I guess not.

Gender of the survivors is irrelevant. Meyer left out the potential rape scene with a man raping another man, because Meyer is a devout Mormon who thinks being gay is evil, so even showing a man being sexually assaulted by another man is condoning same sex attraction in her bigoted mind.
And more men are raped in the United States than women: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/artic...
Wow, you know I'm a guy and I agree about men being raped too and all. But, to be honest, I did liked more this version not because "my manly heart" doesn't feel attacked but because I believe is more usual for someone to be shot or robbed on a big city rather than being raped.
(Spoiler start)
This happen? yes, of course; I wouldn't deny that. But the man and woman who Beau hit on the airport being the ones who come back to think Beau is a police man and them starting to "play" about shotting him feels more accurate to the narrative of the book.
(Spoiler end)
Also I like more Carine's backstory than Carlisle and other few things like the Black family being women.
This version works as good as the original one but also it made me realize how many men where actually on the "power" in this saga, like the police chief, the Volturi, the Black family, the "populars" at school, the nomads and so on.
I love Edward and, to be honest, like from page 30 I started to change Edythe's name to 'Edward' and the story is good enough and normal to me.

I cannot begin to explain how much the rape removal annoys me. Men can be raped.
I guess Stephenie Meyer doesn't know this or doesn't believe it....
