Palash (naikon) | 227 comments Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.

This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

message 17: by Sundara (new)

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments I started last night. And I totally agree with Manasa. The intro part was absolutely creative and beautiful. I had to work with my imagination at its best to capture the entrancing poetry-like-writing. I urge all of you to at least try the first chapter!!

message 18: by Sundara (new)

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments @Ann
It's okay. Even I like paperbacks better than eBooks but since I'm still a student,my desire to start my own book collection is not quite possible. So invested in a kindle and limited myself to buy few books in physical copy occasionally in Amazon or in
annual book clearance sale ;)

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments @Aarti
If you still need the eBook,I can just mail you!

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments @Manasa
It's from death's POV.
But still it wasn't depressing to read,if anything it's more beautiful!

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Exactly... I had to read twice to understand that. Its poetic.

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments About three chapters.

How do u find time to read?

message 26: by Sundara (new)

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments Yeah :/
Disadvantages of being a CA student!
I hardly read 5-10% reading..in between class breaks and my sleep times!

message 27: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments Ann, become a book thief and steal it from somewhere. This deserves to be read... and more so in a great group!

message 32: by Nanda (new)

Nanda Krishna (nandakrish27) | 2 comments I will get the book soon

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I've started the book. The narration is a little bit unusual. Let's see.

message 34: by Sundara (new)

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments True that :P

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm around 10% done. I really like that " some facts about....." style.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah.. its different.. never came across

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm done with part 1. There's nothing much to discuss though.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Since I've not read blurb, I have no idea in which direction the book is going. Just enjoying the moment.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

In the morning, you were just 18% done and now!! Wow!!
Btw, sorry for your emotional breakdown.

message 40: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 11, 2016 08:14AM) (new)

I'm only 18% done.

message 41: by Sundara (new)

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments I'm 10% done..

message 42: by Palash (new)

Palash (naikon) | 227 comments I'm 0% done.

message 43: by Gorab (new)

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments Aww..is it that affecting?
I don't wanna cry:P

message 45: by Nanda (new)

Nanda Krishna (nandakrish27) | 2 comments I am 78%done and so far.....great book

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Y'all are so fast. I'm still stuck at 25%.
The narration is superb, otherwise, so far, it's just another WW story.

message 47: by Sundara (new)

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments Even I'm lagging behind Arpit!!:/
The book is not exactly a page turner!

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Manasa wrote: "Sundara wrote: "Even I'm lagging behind Arpit!!:/

it IS a page turner :o"

Ha ha! Manasa, I agree with Sundara on that. We are around 20-30%, and it's not a page-turner so far. Although, the narration, no doubt about it, is superb.

message 49: by Gorab (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3110 comments +1 with Mishty on page turner ;)
Though had slight difficulty in the beginning.

message 50: by Sundara (new)

Sundara Gandhi (bookaholictalks) | 553 comments It's not that it isn't interesting-therefore-not-a-page-turner...
Just that..the plot of the story isn't exactly sucking in kind. It's more like a character driven book, so the timing of reading this book also matters. Hopefully will get into it..
