Deviation
Fans of S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders will enjoy Deviation, award-winning author P.D. Workman's gut-wrenching story of Henry's battle against neglect and abuse.
“You’re a good kid, Henry.”
Everyone knew that he was a good guy; geeky, responsible, hard-working. Henry has had a lot to deal with in the past. Now, as he should be focusing on his schooling and preparing himself for the future, he is hindered by abuse, the challenge of raising his baby brother while dealing with his mother’s deep depressions, and the return of a ghost from the past Henry has tried his best to forget.
But it seems that Henry can’t avoid the nastiness of life. As hard as he tries, it’s one more disaster after another as his life spirals out of control.
Can Henry escape the darkness, or is he doomed to be consumed by it?
By the author of Ruby, Between the Cracks, a winner of the Top Ten Best Books for Teens 2015 award, this poignant account of Henry's descent into darkness will challenge you to look at youth crime in another light.
Praise for Deviation
-- I was caught up in the twists and turns of the plot from the beginning of Deviation and was still surprised at the end.
-- This book could actually happen. That is what makes it so scary! I am really looking forward to the next book in the series. I am thoroughly intrigued and want to see what happens next.
-- “Deviation” will play on your emotions and feed your doubts as you follow Henry through his many troubles and trials.
Praise for P.D. Workman
“Every single one of [P.D. Workman’s] books has spoken to me in ways no one or almost anything else has. And I have found strength in the books I've read."
"The way that P.D. Workman writes just flows amazingly and allows the reader to get really invested in a book."
"This is one author I certainly will be looking out for, I can’t recommend her enough."
I'm breaking rules again. This book is Free if you have Kindle Unlimited. It's also not contemporary YA, but it sounds so good and I love the cover so I wanted to share it will you all :) If you don't have Kindle Unlimited I think it would make a great purchase.
Miles McTavish likes old bicycles, new music, and (don’t say it too loud), model railroading. As the only child of wealthy Dallas executives, it appears that a life of ease is his birthright. All those expectations are upended, however, the day he is summoned to the hospital bed of his friend Morgan Davies. Professor Davies has a secret to share: he is a time traveler. He also has a task for his young friend: Miles is to travel back in time to 1928, and across the sea to England. Once there, he is to find “a girl with a gift, a girl born out of her time” and a “secret that was not meant to be” and then return home with them both. Miles must first find the courage to pass through the strange portal in the Vermont woods that will launch him on this mission, and then to face down a series of do-or-die crises (including a crisis of confidence). Miles' quest for the girl and the secret carries him from a great estate in England's beautiful countryside to London's jazz-age cabarets, and from terrified boy to heroic young man.
“[T]his is a book for all ages, especially for those who long for the books of yesteryear that invoked magic and mystery and warmth and an instant love affair with the author… Velk is a major find.” - Grady Harp in The Literary Aficionado, Amazon Vine Voice, Top 50 Reviewer.
This is a charming book with an easy, flowing writing style that should really appeal to older kids who've fallen under the "Downton" spell — and their history buff parents. - Margot Harrison - 7 Days, Burlington, VT.
"A book to be savored..." - The Teatime Reader
"I would certainly recommend this as a YA novel, but as with all good novels, it appeals to all ages whether the protagonist is fifteen or older. An entertaining novel with lots of good social and cultural history thrown in with the adventure." - A Garden Carried in the Pocket
"I've always been interested in the past," Miles said, "I just never thought it was a place I would visit."

What happens when you suddenly go from a cramped Seattle apartment to the biggest mansion in Montecito? Should be a dream come true, right? Unfortunately for college student Beth McKellar, who is armed only with non-designer running shoes and a late model Honda, it's not all it's cracked up to be.
Yet.
As Beth learns that Montecito has more secrets, manipulation, and backstabbing than trust fund babies wearing out their daddy's credit cards, she puts her coding skills to work and anonymously creates NETWORK, the social media site of the century.
It's exclusive. It's expensive. And, everyone wants in.
Even the gorgeous, rich - way out of her league - Noah Bethell. As Beth and her NETWORK partner, Stu watch this world of wealth from behind a computer screen, life in Montecito is about to get a whole lot better - and richer - for the both of them.
Full of surprising twists and shocking scandals, this first book in the series will have you hooked.
