Tracy (cornerfolds) This is the place to discuss this month's group read!

'It came from the woods. Most strange things do.'

Five mysterious, spine-tingling stories follow journeys into (and out of?) the eerie abyss.

These chilling tales spring from the macabre imagination of acclaimed and award-winning comic creator Emily Carroll.

Come take a walk in the woods and see what awaits you there...

Let's discuss!

Latasha (latasha513) this sounds really interesting. I may try to squeeze it in.

Aj Sterkel This book came in the mail yesterday, and I already read it. I liked it a lot.

I completely love the art style. I especially like that the illustrator uses slightly different colors for each story.

The stories remind me of campfire tales. They’re odd, but they don’t have a lot of depth or explanation. I think campfire stories are an art form, so that didn’t bother me very much.

“Our Neighbor’s House” is my favorite because I love the colors, and I wasn’t expecting that ending.

“A Lady’s Hands are Cold” is my second favorite. What’s not to like about a chopped-up corpse? Also, it probably has the weirdest love-triangle ever.

I might have missed something about “His Face All Red” (possibly because I was reading this book while working, as responsible adults do.) Why is dude hanging out in a hole at the end? I might have to reread this one.

“My Friend Janna” is my third favorite. Again, I like the colors. The characters are also running a pretty interesting scam. I like that one character is running a scam and the other can really see dead people.

I had no idea where “The Nesting Place” was going when I started it. The story has a lot of suspense, but the ending was kind of “meh” for me. I think I was expecting something crazier.

Michelle Glatt (ipushbooks) | 12 comments I purchased this book for my middle school libraries and will be interested to get some feedback from the pre-teen/teen readers.

I found it delightfully dark and creepy, ghostly and ghastly, and I think the vivid (mostly) black and red illustrations are a perfect match.

There’s a lot of unsettling teeth/mouth imagery, which always seems to freak me out a bit since I used to dream a lot about losing teeth by them crumbling to pieces out of my mouth.

Latasha (latasha513) I finally got this from the library. I had forgot I was on the waiting list. I loved it! The stories were short and simple and I loved the illustrations.

Marylou (As the Page Turns) (as_the_page_turns) | 5 comments I loved that book too! the illustrations and the stories were very creepy!
