I cannot believe the summer is almost over. It flew. I am not ready for fall yet. I want summer to stay longer. Now onto September's themes.

1. Read a book by an author whose last name starts with S.
2. Read a book that makes you laugh.
3. Read a book recommended to you by a young person in your life.
4. Read a book of poetry.
5. Read a book with fall in the title.
6. Read a book published in the decade you were born.
7. Read a book about football since it's football season.
8. Read a book with a woman's name in the title.
9. Your choice.

Rachel Believing the Dream (Return to Red River, #2) by Lauraine Snelling -Lauraine Snelling 9-1-16
This was a well-written Christian historical novel. The characters were well drawn and engaging, and the plot was interesting. I really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading the last book of this particular series. This series (Return to Red River) is a follow-up to the author's Red River of the North series. Then, she has more series of novels that follow this one.

More Than a Dream (Return to Red River, #3) by Lauraine Snelling -Lauraine Snelling 9-3-16
This was a well-written Christian historical novel. The characters were well drawn and engaging, and the plot was interesting. I really enjoyed this novel, which is the last one of this particular series. This series (Return to Red River) is a follow-up to the author's Red River of the North series. Then, she has more series of novels that follow this one.

True Evil by Greg Iles -Greg Iles 9-4-16
This was a well-written and truly intriguing suspense novel. The characters were well drawn, and the plot was intense and action-packed. I enjoyed it.

Rachel The Prophetess Deborah's Story (Daughters of the Promised Land, #2) by Jill Eileen Smith -Jill Eileen Smith 9-5-16
This was a well written and interesting fictional expansion of Deborah's story. I really liked how the author developed the characters and the plot.

The Maid of Fairbourne Hall by Julie Klassen -Julie Klassen 9-6-16
This was a well written and entertaining Christian historical romance. I really like how much the protagonist matured throughout the story and how she dealt with her difficult circumstances, some of which were rather amusing. Even though it took me awhile to warm up to the story and characters, I ended up really enjoying the book.

Secrets (Glenbrooke, #1) by Robin Jones Gunn -Robin Jones Gunn 9-7-16
I really liked this sweet Christian romance, which also included some minor elements of suspense. The characters were well drawn, and I enjoyed the protagonist's journey to faith in Christ as well as her growth to greater maturity regarding other matters in her life.

Rachel Irish Meadows (Courage to Dream #1) by Susan Anne Mason -Susan Anne Mason 9-8-16
This was a fairly well written Christian historical romance novel. I wish the characters had been a little more well developed, however, especially the two who were supposedly the main characters. I really despised the father character for most of the book as well, and even once he changed somewhat after a crisis, I still didn't care for him much. Anyway, the book was fairly good overall, and I might read more of the series later on.

Rachel Arms Of Love (Amish Beginnings) by Kelly Long -Kelly Long 9-9-16
Although reading about what the Amish looked like during the Revolutionary War era was fairly interesting, I just didn't care for the book too much mainly because I didn't like any of the characters, so I didn't particularly care what happened to them except for two things. First, I was glad that Adam and his father were able to get deliverance from and feel true forgiveness from God for something from their past that had plagued them until their present, which also helped heal their relationship with each other. Then, second, I was glad that Lena didn't marry the wrong brother in the end after all the confusion was settled. The writing itself was fairly decent though except for the character development.

Rachel The Devil's Punchbowl (Penn Cage, #3) by Greg Iles -Greg Iles 9-13-16
As was the case with the first two novels of this series, The Quiet Game and Turning Angel, I found this to be an interesting mystery/suspense novel full of political and legal intrigue. This novel of the series, like the first one, was quite action-packed also. I really liked the characters and enjoyed the plot as well.

The Death Factory (Penn Cage, #3.5) by Greg Iles -Greg Iles 9-13-16
This novella provides an interesting side story to the Penn Cage series. This quick read serves primarily to reveal some more background on Penn as a character as he tells his uncle about a rather nasty legal case in Houston he was semi involved with during the last days of his wife Sarah.

If you are looking for a book for early school age kids get The Trouble With Chickens by Doreen Cronin. I loved it. It's so funny. JJ is a retired search-and-rescue dog who is called in by a mother chicken to find her missing chicks. JJ talks like a hard-boiled detective from film noir. The villain, Vince the Funnel, talks like a gangster but he has no heart of gold. It's a riot! It's fun also for adults.

Rachel Natchez Burning (Penn Cage, #4) by Greg Iles -Greg Iles 9-24-16
As was the case with the first three novels of this series, The Quiet Game, Turning Angel, and The Devil's Punchbowl, I found this to be an interesting mystery/suspense novel full of political and legal intrigue. This novel of the series, like the second one, wasn't as action-packed as the first and third novels of the series were; however, I really liked the characters and enjoyed the plot.

The Bone Tree (Penn Cage #5) by Greg Iles -Greg Iles 9-30-16
As was the case with the first three novels of this series, The Quiet Game, Turning Angel, and The Devil's Punchbowl, I found this to be an interesting mystery/suspense novel full of political and legal intrigue. This novel of the series, like the previous one and the second one of the series, wasn't as action-packed as the first and third novels of the series were; however, I really liked the characters and enjoyed the plot even with there being a really sad plot twist near the end of the novel.

I finished by banned book in October but I started it in September. I read Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. I understand why you don't want to read it for the first time as an adult. Holden is a pain where the sun don't shine. He is so whiny. He's seen it all, done it all, knows it all and he has done nothing and knows nothing by whine. Everyone is against him. They're all dopes and whatever. He is a teenager. Enough said! I do like Salinger's writing. I'm glad this was not the first book of his I read. His Franny and Zoey were fantastic!
