In this reading, I chose to read another book by F. Scott Fitzgerald, “This Side of Paradise”. The quote comes from the first book and chapter three, "Don't let yourself feel worthless; often through life you will really be at your worst when you seem to think best of yourself; and don't worry about losing your "personality," as you persist in calling it; at fifteen you had the radiance of early morning, at twenty you will begin to have the melancholy brilliance of the moon, and when you are my age you will give out, as I do, the genial golden warmth of 4 P.M." This quote is when Beatrice, Amory’s mother, is talking to him and trying to give him good advise. I really like this quote because I tend to worry about feeling like my life is meaningless. She really sparks hope into him that he will have a chance in life and not to worry now. An outside source that I would compare it to would probably be ‘Smalls’ from “The Sandlot.” Being a new kid, Smalls did not really have any friends and he was beginning to feel worthless, but Benjamin Rodriguez just like Amory’s mother, made Smalls feel like he meant something in the world.
