Has Bowie been influenced by Flaubert's Parrot? Or have other artists been inspired by this book?

Please, feel free to share any material that may be interesting to those who liked the book and want to read, watch a movie, etc, with a similar premise.

I've read on http://www.bowiewonderworld.com/books... that Flaubert's Parrot is about how art mirrors life and finally turns to shape it. I guess this is why Bowie found this book important since his art gave him life until his life was enough molded by it to be able to live a life of his own.

Indeed. I was wondering why this book by Barnes and not another one. Actually I needed to find some sort of connection before starting it ;-)

Samanta (almacubana) | 183 comments I was going along the way of how Bowie changed many aspects of his persona during his career (especially when he was young) and in the book, the author talks about how Flaubert didn't want people to see him for what he really was and didn't want his letters to be shown or stories about him told quite accurately.

So much like Bowie who was a very private person. Flaubert hated society life.
