message 1: by Hallie, I'm all about the books (last edited Sep 04, 2016 04:22AM) (new)

I was making a reading challenge for the group last night, and I thought I should create it according to how you like it.

1. Do you like having a point system, or just a free style one? In a point system, you will be competing against each other, and there will be winners. However, in free style, there are no winners as such.

4. Hould you rather have individual challenges, or team challenges?

3. How long do you think a challenge should last?

4. Should the challenge have mini-challenges along with the main challenge?

5. Average number of books?

Right now, I'm creating a challenge named 'Around the World' which is a team challenge. I'd like to use the answers from this thread to improve it.

Tiffany | 28 comments 1. point system
2. individual
3. 2 weeks
4. if longer than 2 weeks add mini goals. if 2 weeks or shorter stick with a main challenge.
5. depends on time period. for two weeks, 3 books?

Shan ~A~ | 61 comments ~ a point system
~ individual challenges
~ duration I like: seasonal, yearly, open-ended
~ mini-goals only if the challenge is yearly or open-ended
~ number of books would depend on (1) challenge duration and/or (2) individual reading times (having different levels with the option to read x amount of books a week, month, per challenge, a year, etc....

martin eden | 405 comments Hi Hallie! What about a scavenger hunt? You make a list of five or six elements that we should find in our readings.
For me, concerning your questions:
1- it really depends on the type of challenge. But I prefer a free style system
2- individual
3- 1 month but actually it depends again on the type of challenge
4- no mini challenges
5- 15 books max

That's a good idea! I tried it once, but it didn't go very well. We can have it back again, though :)

Sophie (sophiesworld) I've seen challenges on other groups and personally I like the idea of yearly or open ended ones because it's just not possible for me to get through as many books as some people on good reads. I like to take a book in rather than rush through it for the sake of it. I understand others may feel differently.

I honestly don't know who I'd be in a team with on here unless I was put in a team as I am new here, but by the look of it, individual challenges are more popular. Depends how big the main challenge is re micro challenges. Not sure how many books...

Sophie (sophiesworld) I like the scavenger hunt idea too.

I echo this idea. I don't like to force my reading to keep up with a schedule. Reading is supposed to be relaxing!

I second this, I might go for a challenge but only if it's open-ended, I don't like to have to rush through x amount of books just to make the deadline.
