This is the place to discuss comics related television, whether it was your favorite show in 1995, is currently ongoing, or was just announced.

For recent shows that other club members may not have had a chance to watch yet, please refrain from posting any spoilers!

Wayland Smith | 263 comments The new tv season has started. My review of the Gotham premier is up at https://comicbookclog.com/2016/09/22/... for those interested.

Overall, I thought it wasn't bad, but I'm not sure about a few of their choices.

Wayland Smith | 263 comments I forgot to post my link for last week's Agents of SHIELD. https://comicbookclog.com/2016/09/24/...

I really don't understand doing Ghost Rider with no bike.

That, too. Although of the 4 Netflix heroes, I'm most excited about iron Fist.

Wayland Smith | 263 comments My Agents of SHIELD review is up. https://comicbookclog.com/2016/10/01/... The episode is decent, but the implications for who the new Director is are really fascinating.

Agents of SHIELD has been on my to-watch list ever since it showed up on Netflix, but I've never gotten past the first two episodes.

message 8: by Wayland (new)

Wayland Smith | 263 comments It can be uneven, Kate, but I think it's worth watching just for Coulson and May if nothing else.

message 9: by Phil (new)

Phil | 169 comments I remember the first season being OK. It wasn't too exciting, but I eventually watched the second season and it was much better. The payoff was worth it to me. I probably won't watch season 4 until it hits Netflix though.

Speaking of Netflix, I watched the first few episodes of Luke Cage and I'm really enjoying it.

Season one of Marvel's Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D. drags until about half-way through (when Captain America: Winter Soldier happens) and the whole story take a hard left turn changing the show in many good ways. I never got into season 2...

Wayland Smith | 263 comments My review of Luke Cage's second episode is up. https://comicbookclog.com/2016/10/08/...

I'll have Gotham, Flash, and Arrow up soon. Fair warning, I wasn't hugely impressed with any of them this week, and I say that as a huge fan of the Flash.

Shawnie | 9 comments I was disappointed with Luke Cage's first episode, but friends tell me to stick with it.

ABsolutely! Coulson and May. :)

message 17: by Shawnie (new)

Shawnie | 9 comments My heart still belongs to Aquaman. I started watching the TV cartoon series in the early 70s! :)

message 18: by Wayland (new)

Wayland Smith | 263 comments I'm liking a lot about Cage, Shawnie, although I'm only 3 in.

And Aquaman was the only DCNU book I got from beginning to end, and I'm still getting the title. He and Mera make an amazing team.

I gave up on Arrow after two or three episodes, when a couple friends told me that I had to wait until half way through season 2 for it to get good.

Plus, we all know who the best comic book archer is, and she isn't in it :P

I actually enjoyed Arrow a lot right from the beginning. I may have had pretty low expectations between not knowing the character much and not liking a lot of CW shows.

message 23: by Wayland (new)

Wayland Smith | 263 comments My review of Flash is up. I have to admit, I was really disappointed in the episode in general and Barry in particular. And I say that as a Flash fan usually.

Nope, you're good! This is the exact spot for them, and you cleared it with the mods first :)

Wayland Smith | 263 comments Thank you Kate.

Got to admit I'm really impressed with Luke Cage so far. 4 episodes in.

message 28: by Wayland (new)

Wayland Smith | 263 comments I'd agree that all the Netflix shows are a lot better than Agents of SHIELD. That said, it's still better than a lot of what's on tv these days.

https://comicbookclog.com/2016/11/24/...

I've got to admit, I don't think this was one of their better efforts. Too many small things didn't quite make sense. But overall, the series is still pretty damn good. And we finally get to see who Diamondback is.

message 33: by Wayland (new)

Wayland Smith | 263 comments Good news for Constantine fans. Matt Ryan will voice the character on a cartoon on CW Seed, much like Vixen's.

I read a brutal review of it on io9.com today. They're calling it the first major Marvel/Netflix misstep.

Meanwhile, Legion might be the most incredible comic book-based show I've ever experienced in my life.

Gotta agree with you about Legion. It's not even about the comics. It's just good television.

Stephen Brophy | 20 comments Mike wrote: "Gotta agree with you about Legion. It's not even about the comics. It's just good television."

Totally. I've never read New Mutants or any Legion books but that show is captivating high art television on the Mr. Robot mindfuck level (even better, for my personal tastes). It's the comic book show I'm most likely to recommend to people who don't read comics, because it's just high quality stuff.

Between that and Logan, Fox is kinda crushing it for a hot minute. Hope it lasts.

I don't have cable, but this is the first super hero cable show were I'm really excited for it to come to Netflix or Amazon Prime. It looks awesome!

message 40: by Wayland (new)

Wayland Smith | 263 comments Legion is well written, has some great effects, and is largely ignoring the wider Marvel Universe, which can be good and bad both. I've just gotta say, as high quality as it is, I'm just plain not enjoying it as much as it seems like a lot folks are, and I'm not sure I can put my finger on why.

message 41: by Wayland (new)

Wayland Smith | 263 comments My review of the first episode of Iron Fist is up at https://comicbookclog.com/2017/03/19/... I liked it. Good start with potential.

I've read the bad reviews, but so far, I think it's just fine. More as I can.

Just got myself caught up on Flash last night. I really, really enjoy this show. I'm attached to the characters and I really wish Supergirl would just join the team permanently--or on a more regular cadence. The only downside of this show is that I wish the writers would do more with Caitlin. She only serves the role as supporting doctor/scientist/question-asker and it's really a bummer. They did more with her back when her husband was around, but I want her to be as fleshed out as Cisco.

Otherwise, this show is magical.

message 43: by Chris (new)

Chris DC really dropped the ball when they decided not to make their high-quality TV shows part of their cinematic universe. I think the Flash, Green Arrow, and Supergirl would have provided some much needed help with their failing movies.

I could not agree more. You've got perfectly cast actors giving everything to these roles and building a fanbase. But yeah, let's just ignore that and hope for the best over here.

Stephen Brophy | 20 comments Chris wrote: "DC really dropped the ball when they decided not to make their high-quality TV shows part of their cinematic universe. I think the Flash, Green Arrow, and Supergirl would have provided some much ne..."

Then again, Marvel's built this great TV universe that's supposedly connected to the larger MCU and the movie side of the equation couldn't care less, so DC aren't the only ball-droppers.

message 46: by Wayland (new)

Wayland Smith | 263 comments The DC decision is puzzling. And they're not even keeping it wholly separate, no matter what they claim. There's a reason Arrow lost all their characters related to the Suicide Squad...

As for Marvel, Agents of SHIELD isn't getting hooked up with the movies because, allegedly, Joss Wheton was pissed off they brought Coulson back. As for the Netflix shows, who knows? There's a rumor, that I personally don't believe, that they might make a cameo in Infinity War.

I'm just bummed that Sif won't be back on Agents of SHIELD...

The funny thing is, Joss Whedon is an EP on Agents of SHIELD and his brother is one of the showrunners. He actually had a creative hand in bringing Coulson back (which is, let's face it, the most comic book thing in the world at this point). And SHIELD got such a terrific creative charge out of what happened in Winter Soldier that it's permanently tethered to the MCU whether the movie execs or Whedon want to think so or not.
