chapter 14 (view spoiler)[ hmm, I'm a little concerned at the speed this relationship is going at. they've gone from 0-60 in about 3 seconds flat. at the beginning of the chapter there was a bit of an attraction, and by the end they're confessing their undying love for one another! Oh, and Eli is not going to be impressed. (hide spoiler)]

5% (view spoiler)[ Ok. I'm pretty sure that Eli is some sort of protector. Why else would he have powers? That scene was a little hard to imagine though, that is the tornado/vortex whatever that Eli did. (hide spoiler)]

23% (view spoiler)[ Ok, Eli is supposed to be good-looking and Isaac is as well. So why the overwhelming physical attraction to Isaac but none to Eli? And she mentioned that wrestling or whatever with Eli might have turned into something more but how? She said she didn't feel that way about him. Chapter 3 (view spoiler)[ Does anyone else feel DejaVu when reading this? This feels way too much to me like the Iron Fey Series with Meghan Chase and Puck. And it's super fast, like there's no build up - it's just WHAM - you're a royal elf, right in chapter 3. And the writing style is almost captivating but not quite. If I weren't buddy reading this I would DNF. Liz has potential but she's got to get better - take lessons from Julie Kagawa and really throw herself into good writing. The ideas are good but not original. Use punctuation more to your advantage, and make your sentences shorter and easier to read, especially if this is for young adult readers and it's a novel. I like her descriptions but ... in my opinion this should not be a final draft. (hide spoiler)]

I agree with you to a certain extent. (view spoiler)[ I haven't read the series you're referring to but I'm seeing similarities between a few series I've read before. The writing is dragging for me, especially some of the sentence structure and I feel you on the DNF. (hide spoiler)]

48% (view spoiler)[ I am not feeling Isaac and Thea's "love". It feels contrived. (hide spoiler)]

I really want to DNF. I won't but I want to. So slow and not captivating enough.

chapter 7:

(view spoiler)[ Ok the one part that seems a little intriguing is that she meets her enemy in the beginning of the story and she has to be diplomatic in getting back her kingdom and rescuing the earth elves. But the love triangle and the tough training is all done before and with better writing.

She has potential! This story could be really good! But the pacing and the sentence structure distract me and make keep rolling my eyes at the plot. Liz has got to find a way to SLOW it down, make it a little more believable, and draw me in. Drag out the description of her feelings with Isaac and DON'T use the phrase TURNED ON. Describe details and feelings more, and make the dialogue more believable, what Eli says all seems staged! (hide spoiler)]

I apologize if my negativity distracts from your reading. I see good things in here; it could just be so much better!

chapter 12:

(view spoiler)[ ok so it's kinda sorta getting interesting, but the fact that Thea can control all elements didn't come as a surprise, and it wasn't built up enough. the plot is okay but she can do better!!! Grrr I'm frustrated. And this love triangle with her, and Isaac is still dumb! It's good that I'm still not getting much of a read off Isaac but she needs to really work on her presentation of feelings and use better vocabulary and sentence structure. Now I sound like a broken record! (hide spoiler)]

chapter 15:
(view spoiler)[ I'm also not believing this love between Isaac and Thea. It happened way too fast.
She jumps from scene to scene, idea to idea, forgetting to merge them with thoughts and dialogue, so we're supposed to believe each decision is natural but I can't get behind any of it!
And the scene where they discuss what they do after they're enlightened - everyone chooses something where everyone's happy? it's not supposed to work out like that that quickly - it's supposed to take time and there should possibilities of it not working out - book plots thrive on uncertainty - there should be more here! chapter 20: (view spoiler)[ still not enjoying the writing. everything's happening so fast. ok she put a traitor in the guards, did not see that coming honestly, but it still feels under developed. and she shows Minen her spirit magic with few audiences - it would be more dramatic if she had to do it with Isaac or Eli around. Anyways those are just my thoughts. Can't wait to be done! (hide spoiler)]

Done. Finally. Terrible writing. Could have been so much better. IMO.
