Watch the two videos in our group: A Conversation about Growing Up Black and A Conversation with Police on Race. Share your reactions and thoughts about these short documentaries. How do they speak to the ideas of the novel? How do the videos add to the conversation about race in America?

Aashish | 3 comments These documentaries made me feel empathetic towards those who feel inferior in their own society. Listening to the kids in "Growing Up African American" video allowed me to realize how their lives are affected by society and what injustices they face. Ideas mentioned in both videos speak to the ideas of the novel as just like Rashad, African American teens may be subject to targeting very frequently. Others may feel in danger and keep tight hold of their possesions when around when around African Americans. Former police officers also claimed that their experience has shown them that officers often target African American teens abruptly without thinking twice. These videos add to the conversation about race in America as they support the claim that the "focus of the media and the department is upon the negative behavior of black people."
