Mamotte Shugogotten Vol. 1 (Mamotte Shugogotten) (in Japanese) by Minene Sakurano
Mamotte Shugogotten is by Minene Sakurano.

Here's a basic summary:
One day, Tasuke, an average high school boy, receives a mysterious ring from his father. Much to his surprise, when he gazes into the dazzling jewel, a beautiful moon goddess appears--and she claims to be his protector! But having been locked away for a thousand years, she has a lot to learn about the modern world... You never know what will surprise her next in this story about a befuddled boy and his clueless goddess.

Its basically a really cute story with conflicting romances. Pretty much, all the girls are in love with the main character, Tasuke. And all the boys are in love with Shaorin, the moon spirit. Well, except poor Kouichirou Endou. He loves a character named Ruuan, the spirit of the sun. He's always getting left in the dust though. Its fun to read how everyone tries to get their sweethearts to fall in love with them. When they're all competing for the same people though, things get hectic, and that's funny. ☺

I love this book! Who has read it?

i have! i've read through book 4! it's so cute, but i have to really pace myself since the books are so big.

yeah! I read through 5 way too fast. When I finished 5, though, it didn't feel like the ending, but I can't find any other books afterward....do you know if there is more, or if its still being written, or what?

message 4: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
i kind of thought that book 5 was the final book. but i've been mistaken before. they've been released about every 4 months. the 5th was released this month, so if there's a 6th, it'll probably be released in october. yeah, i have a lot of series mapped out for their latest release.

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
i should have asked, are you reading the big multi-volume books or the regular sized volumes? mine are the big ones, so there's at least 10 regular sized volumes out there. but it kinda sounds like your reading the big ones too.

Hylian Princess (hylianprincess) | 400 comments Mod
Yeah, I'm reading the big ones. Its good to hear that another might be released! I was worried, because I couldn't find anything on the internet.

message 7: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
that happens. i used to look up release dates on borders' webbie, and half of the time they didn't have records of upcoming releases, or they'll only have two or three upcoming releases for a series. there could be more, but they don't have dates for it. oh, and i looked again in my books and they were being released every 3 months, so book 6 could be released in sept. i hope it's not one of those series that just doesn't have an end, like millennium snow. that was so disappointing.

message 8: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
yeah. oh well. i guess it was more popular than snow. or maybe the editors pushed for host club over snow. who knows. both series are good so i guess i can't really complain. i just wish there was more to it. *sigh*

message 9: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
yeah that would have been nice.

i would say that it's okay. i myself had to pace myself since the books are rather large. but it's cute. if you see it, i would suggest taking a gander at it. but i think that this one is purely up to taste if you are going to buy it. i don't think i've re-read this one yet, and it's probably not going to be one that i continuously re-read like red river (though i've greatly slowed down in re-reading this one) and skip beat.

Mamotte Shugogotten is a cute little story and it's rather funny. Its not very...er.. what's a good word....um, intense, if that's the sort of thing you like.

Hey! I read Marmalade Boy! I liked it, but it was, as you say, weird.

message 12: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
that was my first obsession series! i love it! though by the end of the book you want to slap some sense into yuu. i used to think marmalade boy was pretty weird too, but not so much anymore. i don't know if it's because i kept re-reading it or if it's because i'm so used to reading all sorts of odd things now.

message 13: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
the marmalade boy kind of weird is acceptable. even the love triangle in there is acceptable. i've read that sort of thing in other series that did not turn out so well.

message 14: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
yeah. i have a co-worker who's parents did something similar. i guess that it is the weirdest art of the series. if yoshizumi didn't "chicken out" at the end, yuu and miki would have been about just as weird. oh, make sure to read the commentary. yoshizumi talks about the anime, and it's funny to hear how it wasn't living up to the manga.

message 15: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
uh, have you read the entire series? i don't want to spill any spoilers if you haven't. but if you read about yoshizumi's original intent, it would have made a more dramatic ending than the already pretty dramatic one in place.

man I need to re-read it, I don't remember anything

it's amazing how connected everyone is/was! it's like it's a tiny little clique that everyone knows eachother!

message 18: by Hylian Princess , Hylian-Chan (new)

Hylian Princess (hylianprincess) | 400 comments Mod
I wondered why they'd just switch spouses.. it makes no sense...

message 19: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
it makes sense later in the series. unless you are taking about later in the series, and that seemed to have been a big misunderstanding. i don't get why miki's mom agreed to go to london so quickly though.

message 20: by Hylian Princess , Hylian-Chan (new)

Hylian Princess (hylianprincess) | 400 comments Mod
well, I've read the whole series, but I think that the switch in the very beginning of that one couple even though the man's girl friend was pregnant with his baby was just pointless. or lame...whichever you prefer. the second case, or the other guy wanted to support the pregnant women makes sense. But then, if they were so happy with their new partnerships, why did they change again?

message 21: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
well, i don't think that he knew she was pregnant. she found out after he left. what i always thought was odd was that he asked her best friend to go overseas with him.

anywho- when they met up again, their passion for the original partner was rekindled.

and then their poor kids have to get involved. haha

message 23: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
yeah, they most certainly do. hehehe

message 24: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
sort of. you have to finish the series. it really keeps you guessing.

message 25: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
finished it yet?!

message 26: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
lol! no biggie, i was kidding anyway. i don't even think that they sell marmalade boy in stores anymore. shame. so good. everyone should experience the joys of marmalade boy! haha

message 27: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
yeah. though their selection is surprising sometimes. they stocked marmalade boy for years, so i'm not surprised that they don't really do it anymore. you can always ask them to order it for you. they are pretty nice about that sort of thing.

message 28: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
true. you can always do an online search. they are somewhat accurate for what's in stock. but that's probably the best way to visit borders. they keep moving the manga section, so i always have to search the entire store anyway just to find it.

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
oooo! canada! that must have been fun! but yeah, i've been averaging once a month to every other month with going to borders. besides, i don't think i'll be buying anything till next year anyway. gotta read through my big labor day lapse in judement.

message 30: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
yeah, it's nice to buy in bulk, but oh, was totally not expecting to spend that much. totally had me in a bind last month. but at least i got killer savings

message 31: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
yes, but food is so yummy.

message 32: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
that sounds like old motown standards. when they released a new song, it had to be so good that people would skip buying their lunch and buy the single instead. if it wasn't go-hungry-good, they didn't release it.

message 33: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
haha. yeah, it most certainly is a hard standard to live up to. would totally eliminate those annoying 2 word songs that somehow become popular

message 34: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
well, i totally attribute that to a good base line.

message 35: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
i guess i misspelled it. bass, maybe. the instrument is spelled that way anyway. it's the beat in the background of the music. it holds the song together.

message 36: by Hylian Princess , Hylian-Chan (new)

Hylian Princess (hylianprincess) | 400 comments Mod
I wish I could just buy any. Instead I have to use the library's, which is usually drawn in.

message 37: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
i finally read book 5. i totally agree, that's no where even close to an ending. there needs to be more.

message 38: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
mamotte shugogetten

message 39: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
supposedly. but that was no ending by any stretch of the imagination

message 40: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
i know! it might just be an incomplete. totally lame!

message 41: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
lol. but continuing is different from incomplete. they are a little annoying when they aren't finished.

message 42: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
oh no! is she ill? the person who wrote gentlemen's alliance had a tumor while writing it

message 43: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
hmmm. that does mess up lots of stuff. practically anything that purifies is affected by smoking. lung, bladder, glands...

message 44: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
haha. no. i don't think anyone should smoke.

message 45: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
yeah. it was fought so the british could continue to sell opium to china. a rather dark moment in history. but there are many in history.

sorry to change the topic, but have they published more for this series??

message 47: by Hylian Princess , Hylian-Chan (new)

ha ha, I do the same thing, so don't worry. :)
Aaaaawww, that makes me sad :(

message 48: by Hylian Princess , Hylian-Chan (new)

Hylian Princess (hylianprincess) | 400 comments Mod
I think I've seen that one before

message 49: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
from what i can tell, it doesn't go beyond vol. 10 (or 5 in the big editions). really lame since that was clearly not an ending

message 50: by Starbubbles, event coordinator type person (new)

Starbubbles | 649 comments Mod
true. it could have also had poor sales and was dropped from the distributor.
