Blood Mates Blood mates are the most common type of mate. It also requires somewhat the most devotion, as if you mark someone as your blood mate it means you give up a life with other wolves willingly, which is a tough choice for many free spirits. To become Blood Mates you must mark each other with a bite or scratch, ad constantly scent them to let others know that wolf is yours. Somewhat like Marriage, but less formal and less binding.
Pros- You can break it off at any time, you have a choice and you can become Mates over time, taking it slow and sweet. Once you break it off you can rekindle it, but you will have to re-mark.
Cons- Doesn't happen in an instant, Have to constantly scent each other (Rub over each other) in order to make your mark clear, can be forced into a Blood Mating and out of one.
Breaking Up- Blood Mates can leave each other by choice or be forced apart by simply not scenting each other and not being around each other. Although, these days, a more official ceremony can be taken in which you simply say you wish to leave your mate in order to continue your life. But the mark your Blood Mate leaves is permanent, so all others will know you were left or you left them.
True Mates True Mates are wolves that grow a sort of spark, but is not always a chosen thing, and rarely a fast one. You will inevitably be drawn together, as if by a type of magnetism, and if you spend to long apart you might grow ill, but never enough so to become very damaging. It's like an addiction, you feel empty without it. You may never realize you are True Mates with someone, even if they are right under your nose. There is no official start point for True Mates, but if you feel like you are, try being put under a test by a Healer or Alpha, a Beta will do. The test will be basically seeing how you react to when this person is around you, to when they aren't. A quicker but more precarious way is to see how your wolves react around each other.
Pros- Those who are True Mates often work better when fighting, building and generally working collaboratively. True Mates will have a special connection, once they have actually mated, and have a sort of compass towards where their Mate is.
Cons- There is no certain way to know if they are your Mate. Connections are only really built up once you have mated.
Breaking Up- You cannot 'break up' with your true mate, as you are meant to be. However, you can choose not to act upon the fact you are True Mates and be with other wolves.
Soul Mates*Has to be requested* Almost nobody finds their Soul Mate. Their Soul Mate could be on the other side of the world or anything. You are born with one, and if either dies you counter will not gain a new Soul Mate, thus never knowing who it was in the first place. But finding your soulmate isn't always a lucky thing. You have no choice in the matter, because as soon as you scent or see each other (Sometimes even hear each other) you will become attuned, through body and soul. While it is not a telepathic bond you will be somewhat bound until the physical part of finding the other half to your soul is over. While you will always have a True Mate, some wolves may not be born with a Soul Mate. Soul Mates are not destined to be with each other like True Mates, but are merely a romanticized way of saying that the chemicals in one wolves body will make something of a reaction when around the chemicals of another wolf.
Pros- Some love this, as it means 'true love' and that you are right for each other. Some bonds have made peace between packs because of this. If you find your Blood Mate your general life expectancy will extend.
Cons- Never forcefully separate Soul Mates. While they will not be drawn to each other like True Mates Soul Mates will slowly drain without their Soul Mate, if they have been with them previously.
Breaking Up- You cannot break up. Once you have been with each other physically you can move away, but you will never feel right, physically or mentally, until you are back with them. You will not be able to bear children with another, nor will your body want to.
