You will need 2 of the 3 digits (0,5,8) - doesn't matter how often each digit is repeated.

you might have the wrong task
For book 2 I am wanting to read All Day and a Night by Alafair Burke with Alafair being the word. My issue is with page count. There are 2 different ppb books listed, neither say mass market. 1 works, 1 doesn't. Here are the links. The one that works is listed first if that makes a difference to you.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... 380 pages works
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... 512 pages does NOT work
Could I get approval for the first one meeting your criteria for book B?
I have the same issue with the page numbers for Long Gone by Alafair BurkeThis one works https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
This one does not work
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
neither are listed as mass market and the first one listed is the one that works.
Could I get approval for the first one meeting your criteria for book B?
If you asking this because you want to read an ebook or audio book, I had the question regarding this answered in the General Thread. The mods said we should always use the one with the most ratings. Go on Other editions, sort by num ratings and take the first paperback edition for page count. I think the num rating is the standard sorting for edition.
For anyone with further questions about paperback editions, here's the link to the actual mod postWe've talked this through, and think that the best way to do this is, if there's no MMPB edition listed, to use the most popular paperback edition, based on which has the most ratings.
If you click on "all editions" on the book page, you can filter by paperback and then sort by ratings. The top listing is the one you should use.
I think I've finally got a pair that will work...Book A : Three Souls (SOULS) 502 pg
Book B : The Lost Sisterhood by Anne Fortier (FORTIER) 585 pg

JennRenee wrote: "do these two work Poor Little Dead Girls (girls)285 pgs

Poor Little Dead Girls (girls)285 pgs - yes
Bewitched in Oz by Laura J.Burns (laura) 258 pgs - no for now.
There is no edition version listed on GR (pb, hb, mmpb, ebook, etc) and the Amazon listing shows 256 pages for hardback.
I think this is probably one of the hardest tasks to figure out, especially Book B. I found a handful of books, but I just want to make sure that I'm not making a mistake on any of them. I haven't decided which one I want to read yet.Book A:
The Glass Castle (Glass & Castle) 288 pgs
Surprised by Joy (Surprised) 185 pgs
The Grapes of Wrath (Grapes) 455 pgs
Daughter of the Forest (Forest) 560 pgs
Blind Spots: Why Smart People Do Dumb Things (Spots) 250 pgs
Erasing Hell: What God Said about Eternity, and the Things We've Made Up (Erasing) 208 pgs
Book B:
An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser (Dresier) 859 pgs
&
Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser (Dreiser) 580 pages
I actually have a question about Sister Carrie by Dreiser. It meets the criteria for both Book A (Sister & Carrie) and Book B (Dreiser). Also, not that this makes it any more special, but it contains all three numbers. Could it be as one, but counted for both categories? It's fine if not, but I'd figured I would ask. I almost feel like I have to read it just because of how much criteria it meets.
Book A:no - does not fit page criteria
The Glass Castle - 288p
The Grapes of Wrath - 455p
no - does not fit word criteria
Erasing Hell: What God Said about Eternity, and the Things We've Made Up - no N letter
yes
Surprised by Joy - surprised, 185p
Daughter of the Forest - forest, 560p
Blind Spots: Why Smart People Do Dumb Things - spots, 250p
Book B
An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser (Dresier) 859 pgs
Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser (Dreiser) 580 pages
Could it be as one, but counted for both categories?
No - this is a two-book task.

Thank you! It is helpful!
Book A: The Great Democracies by Winston Churchill (WORD = GREAT, 403 PAGES) - no, page criteriaBook B: Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman (NAME = ALICE, 286 PAGES) - no, page criteria again
Lets try again!Book A: The Great Pursuit by Tom Sharpe (WORD = GREAT, 380 PAGES)
Book B: Ten Years On by Alice Peterson (NAME = ALICE, 408 PAGES)
The Great Pursuit by Tom Sharpe (great) 380 PAGES - yesTen Years On by Alice Peterson - looks like you have the wrong edition linked.
Ten Years On has 408 pages and would work. Beware the ebook/print caveat if you read the ebook.
For Book A -- I am planning on The Leopard Tree -- The word in the title is 'Leopard' and it has 158 ppsFor Book B -- I am planning on Rigged For Murder by Jenifer LeClair -- the author name is 'LeClair' and it has 205 pps
Thanks!

Work?"
the editions you have linked are different than what you're claiming
I just want to make sure I understand because this is turning out to be one hard task. If I have a bookPainted Faces (356 pg.) where the paperback does not fit the page requirement but the Kindle edition does
Painted Faces (358 pg)does - does that mean that the book would not work???
Thanks
Yep, that's pretty much it. For any task have page number requirements, either the actual digits or a minimum # of pages to read, ebooks are not allowed for claiming. Hence the warning note you see on some tasks:NOTE: ebooks without print versions cannot be used for tasks requiring a specific number of pages. If you read an ebook or listen to an audiobook, use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition.
So for Painted Faces, the paperback would not qualify because of the page criteria. The Kindle edition is not even eligible.
Sorry about the incorrect links, I think these are right.Work?

sure
Double checking...For A:
The Immortal Rules (RULES) 450 pages
Dangerous Girls (GIRLS) 388 pages
For B:
Shadows (PAULA) 400 pages
For A:The Immortal Rules (RULES) 450 pages - page number doesn't agree with any edition listed on GR. However, edition linked does work (485 pages).
Dangerous Girls (GIRLS) 388 pages - no, page criteria
For B:
Shadows (PAULA) 400 pages - no, page criteria; also page numbers do not agree with edition linked
I'm confused. In message #7 you said it doesn't matter if the digit is repeated. Or did you actually mean it could something like 500, but not 400?
How about these? For A: The Winter Lodge (lodge, 408 pg) or At Peace (peace, 568 pg)
Book B: Pretty Shade of Grey by A.D.Truax (Truax, 380 pg)
Angie wrote: "I'm confused. In message #7 you said it doesn't matter if the digit is repeated. Or did you actually mean it could something like 500, but not 400?"You will need 2 of the 3 digits (0,5,8) - doesn't matter how often each digit is repeated.
Yes, 500, 505, 588, 800, 808, 855, etc are allowed - so long as there are 2 of the 3 digits - you only had 1 digit.
For A: The Winter Lodge (lodge, 408 pg) - yesAt Peace (peace, 568 pg) - no, ebook editions not allowed
Book B: Pretty Shade of Grey by A.D.Truax (Truax, 380 pg) - nice find with the name, but again, ebook/online editions without print copy not allowed

August 2014 is the 50th anniversary of the release of Disney's Mary Poppins film. 2014 is also the 80th anniversary of the first printing of Mary Poppins. Celebrate with a spoonful of sugar and the following reads:
Book A: Read a book where all the letters in one word from the title can be found in SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS. Subtitles not allowed.
Ex. Cress (550 pg), The Outsider (Outsider, 560 pg), The Great Gatsby (Great, 280 pg)
Book B: Read a book where all the letters in the author's first or last name can be found in SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS.
Ex. The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman (Alice, 504 pg), A Morbid Taste for Bones by Ellis Peters (Ellis, 250 pg)
Conditions:
- The title word or author's name must be AT LEAST 5 letters.
- Both books must have at least 2 of these 3 digits: 5, 8, 0 in the page numbers.
- You can only use the letters as many times as it appears in SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS. (i.e. LADLE is allowed, but not LADDER - only 1 D is available).
Required: State the word and name and the page numbers for each book when you post. It would be helpful to indicate where the letters appear in the source word
NOTE: ebooks without print versions cannot be used for tasks requiring a specific number of pages. If you read an ebook or listen to an audiobook, use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition.
