The Summer I Died by Ryan C Thomas way very vivid and kept me on the edge constantly but never really found a book that truly scared me. Hopefully someone can mention one that will....
Dang. This is kind of hard. I can only say that two books ever really scared me and I'm pretty sure they won't be the majority's cup of tea. I'm going to have to think on it a bit and see what others come up with.
We're currently reading 'Salem's Lot for the September Group Read. So, that nixes that one, but Let The Right One certainly would be a good choice.
Not sure we need them, but I second Let the Right One In. It's a new take on the vampire and was chilling, but also made me feel sympathy when I didn't want to. That's scary to me!
I'm going to throw a couple tension-filled wild rides into the ring.

Ghost Story is a classic in the horror genre and one book every horror fan should read. If you haven't read it, here is your chance to read it with a group. If you have seen the movie be aware that the movie in not 1/10 of what the book is.
I'm also tossing in a very sick and twisted read from Gary Braunbeck. if you have never read Braunbeck, this book is a fantastic place to start.
Ghost Story by Peter Straub
Prodigal Blues by Gary Braunbeck

I will say that the ONLY book/ movie that TRULY scared me was and still is The Excorcist. That being said, I am hoping for some new suggestions that will literally keep me up at night, afraid to fall asleep alone...especially during this time of year!! Please help! :) Thank you!
I nominate
.When it comes to October and Halloween I want a straight shot of nightmare fuel and that's hard to find. This wasn't one I was thinking of before but it fits the bill.
I couple of books that have been suggested do look good and I have added to my to-read list.

Let the Right One In Is such a unique vampire story! And boy, are some parts pretty sick (in a good way)....even the sexual episodes are stomach curdling! I've only read the first tiny bit, but it grabs you.....and one gigantic plus....this author knows how to write--well!
I'm new here folks, but I love a good book read. Ghost Story is on my TBR, it would be fun to read it with a group.
I'd love to read Let the Right One In, and I've seen some requests for two books I've already read, Hell House and The Damnation Game, which I would gladly read again. Both are excellent!
